New Footage Reveals Kinahan Cartel Leaders in Dubai Amid $15 Million Bounty

Kinahan cartel leaders Daniel and Christy Kinahan have been spotted in Dubai, marking the latest sighting of these notorious crime figures since the U.S. government announced multi-million dollar bounties for their capture. The footage, captured during a mixed martial arts (MMA) event in June, provides visual confirmation that the cartel’s leadership, who fled from Spain to Dubai in 2016, were still present in the city as recently as last summer.

The images surfaced shortly after the extradition of Sean McGovern, a lieutenant in the Kinahan cartel, from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Ireland. McGovern faces charges of murder and directing the activities of a criminal organization.

Recent Developments in the Kinahan Case

Christy Kinahan, 68, along with his sons Daniel, 48, and Christopher Jr., 45, are among the most wanted individuals globally. The U.S. government has sanctioned the Kinahan Organized Crime Group, offering a collective reward of $15 million for information leading to their arrest.

Bellingcat and other investigative outlets have previously reported on Christy Kinahan’s online activity, revealing how he inadvertently left a trail of Google reviews that exposed his whereabouts and travel partners over several years. The cartel has also been linked to various criminal activities, including drug trafficking and money laundering.

Confirmed Sightings at the MMA Event

The recent footage of Daniel Kinahan was identified using a face recognition search engine, revealing a professional photograph taken during the 971 Fighting Championship at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on June 14, 2025. In the image, Daniel Kinahan is seen ringside, wearing a black top, baseball cap, and glasses, seated next to Mounir Lazzez, the event’s founder and a former UFC athlete.

Christy Kinahan was also identified among the approximately 6,000 spectators at the event. He was observed wearing a Panama hat, a blue polo shirt, and white trousers, further confirming his presence at the high-profile gathering.

The Kinahan Cartel’s Global Reach

The Kinahan cartel is recognized as one of the world’s most infamous criminal organizations, with an estimated worth of €1.5 billion. It is involved in a range of illicit activities, including drug trafficking, arms smuggling, and money laundering. Investigators have linked the cartel to Iran’s intelligence services and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.

The cartel reportedly formed part of a “Super Cartel,” a network that controlled much of Europe’s cocaine trade. While several key members have been arrested, Daniel Kinahan remains at large.

Daniel Kinahan has been involved in combat sports since the early 2010s, co-founding MTK Global, a boxing management firm that represented high-profile boxers, including Tyson Fury. However, following the U.S. sanctions in 2022, MTK Global ceased operations, and the Kinahans have maintained a low profile since fleeing their luxurious Dubai residences.

Analysis of the Recent Footage

Bellingcat’s analysis of the event footage confirmed that Daniel Kinahan was indeed present in the VIP section. The investigation also identified a man resembling Christy Kinahan seated nearby. This individual shared many physical characteristics with Christy, including build and hair color, and was wearing a Panama hat similar to those Christy Kinahan is known to wear.

The footage from the event has been described as the longest known public appearance of Christy Kinahan, who has evaded capture for over a decade. His visibility at such a public event raises questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement efforts against the cartel.

Ongoing Investigations and Future Implications

Despite claims from Emirati authorities that they have taken action against the Kinahan cartel, including freezing €200 million in assets, reports suggest that the cartel continues to operate openly in Dubai. An extradition treaty between Ireland and the UAE was ratified in 2025, but only one cartel member has been returned to Ireland thus far.

Detective Chief Superintendent Séamus Boland, head of Ireland’s drugs and organized crime bureau, indicated that investigations into the Kinahan cartel remain active, with hopes for significant developments in 2026, coinciding with the tenth anniversary of a violent gangland feud linked to the cartel.

Bellingcat reached out to representatives of the Kinahans for comment but did not receive a response.
