In a dazzling showcase of talent and cultural heritage, Dubai recently hosted the grand Indian classical dance production titled NARI SHAKTI (the Power of Women). This extraordinary event brought together over 100 artists, delivering a thematic show that resonated deeply with the audience, moving many to tears. With its innovative focus on the timeless strength of women, the production featured over 15 performances and culminated in the remarkable Bharatanatyam piece AGNI KANYE, telling the compelling life of Draupadi from the Mahabharata. This spectacular performance was conceptualized and directed by the visionary Guru Iswarya Bharadwaj, founder of NANDA Performing Arts Centre and the Gulf Indian Performing Arts and Music Society (GIPAMS).
A Powerful Message of Femininity
NARI SHAKTI embodied not only artistic expression but a celebration of femininity, capturing the essence of women’s strength and resilience through dance. The show was conceived, planned, and executed predominantly by women, showcasing a commendable spirit of collaboration and entrepreneurship. With most props and costumes crafted by the performers themselves, the event exemplified creativity and commitment.
The night was further enriched by partnerships with organizations such as the Indian People’s Forum (IPF), Trescon, SkyBlue Media, and numerous others, highlighting the pivotal role of community in nurturing artistic endeavors.

This intergenerational collaboration reflected the transformative power of the arts and how it can bridge age gaps, creating shared experiences.
The thematic emphasis on good overcoming evil resonated strongly throughout the performance, emphasizing empowerment and resilience—essential elements encapsulated by the character of Draupadi.
Honoring Inspirational Women
Adding to the emotional depth of the occasion, the show included moments dedicated to honoring impactful women who embody the spirit of NARI SHAKTI. Women like Karthika Vaidyanathan, a notable Carnatic singer and Filmfare awardee, Puja Unni, a celebrated classical dancer, and Renuka Parameshwar, a revered Carnatic teacher, were conferred titles for their contributions to society. Recognizing dynamic figures who create positive change amplifies the show’s message of empowerment and serves as inspiration for many.
