Celebrating Community: A Bollywood Touch at Dubai’s Tribute to Workers

In a vibrant display of community spirit and gratitude, Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat graced an event that merged glamour with heartfelt recognition. Dressed in a stunning fuchsia kaftan, she mingled with workers, shared joyous moments, and even posted a lively video from the celebration, capturing the hearts of her followers online. Known for her daring performances in films like Murder and Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Mallika stepped outside her cinematic persona to embrace a cause close to her heart—showing solidarity with those who contribute to Dubai’s flourishing landscape.

An Inclusive Celebration

The event took place on June 6 and 7 as part of the ambitious Community Year 2025, organized by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA Dubai). With the uplifting slogan “Let’s Celebrate Eid Together,” the gathering aimed to recognize and appreciate the invaluable contributions of workers across the Emirate. Injected with Bollywood charm, Mallika’s presence was a reminder that every individual, regardless of their role, deserves acknowledgment and celebration.

Day of Festivities

The celebration kicked off with congregational Eid prayers, setting a spiritual tone for a full day dedicated to cultural appreciation. Running from 1 PM to 11 PM, the event featured an array of cultural programs, performances, and engaging activities. Throughout the day, over 400 prizes, amounting to more than Dh500,000, were up for grabs. Attendees had the chance to win fabulous prizes that included gold bars, smartphones, shopping vouchers, airline tickets—and even cars!

A Hybrid Celebration

To extend the day’s festivities beyond physical borders, the event incorporated a digital platform that allowed workers in high-density areas to join remotely. By registering with their phone numbers, workers could still participate and win instant prizes, ensuring that the celebration was not exclusive but inclusive. This innovative approach allowed many who might otherwise feel invisible to join in the festivities, reinforcing the idea that everyone deserves to be celebrated.

Direct Acknowledgment

One of the standout features of the event was how prizes were delivered directly to the accommodation sites of winners in labor zones. This thoughtful gesture ensured that individuals didn’t just leave with memories but also with tangible rewards. The celebration wasn’t merely a party; it served as a well-organized tribute to the backbone of Dubai’s workforce—those who labor behind the scenes to sustain the city’s vibrant economy.

A Powerful Message

Major General Obaid Muhair bin Suroor, the Deputy Director General of GDRFA Dubai, articulated the essence of the event beautifully: “This isn’t just a celebration. It’s a message — you are seen, you are valued, you are Dubai.” Such sentiments resonated deeply among attendees, reminding them of their worth and the critical role they play in the fabric of Dubai’s society.

Through initiatives like these, the celebration highlighted the importance of community, connection, and gratitude. By intertwining cultural appreciation with the recognition of hard work, the event created a meaningful atmosphere that honored each individual present, making it a landmark occasion in Dubai’s ongoing journey toward inclusivity.
