### Junior Poly Crew: Aspiring Stars on the Global Stage
The Junior Division of the Poly Crew from Port Moresby, known affectionately as the Junior Poly Crew (JPC), is making headlines as they prepare to represent Papua New Guinea at the prestigious World Supremacy Battlegrounds (WSB) dance competition in Dubai this year. This vibrant and talented group of youngsters, aged 8 to 12, hails from Pari village and is driven by an immense passion for dance.
### A Platform of Opportunity: The WSB Competition
The World Supremacy Battlegrounds is one of the most electrifying dance competitions globally, drawing participation from nearly 32 countries. This year’s event promises to be a significant showcase of talent and culture, with PNG proudly taking its place among the nations. The opportunity to compete on such a prominent stage is a dream come true for the JPC dancers, who have trained tirelessly for this moment.
### The Journey to Dubai: From Local Qualifiers to Global Stage
In February 2025, the qualifiers for the WSB competition took place at the Port Moresby Arts Theatre, where the Junior Poly Crew was crowned champions of the Junior Division. Their victory not only acknowledges their hard work and talent but also marks a pivotal moment for PNG in the dance world. Alongside the winners from the senior division, the Junior Poly Crew will bring the spirit of their nation to the global dance arena in Dubai.
### Leadership and Vision: The Role of Uea Frank Kidu
At the helm of the Junior Poly Crew is their founder and manager, Mr. Uea Frank Kidu. His vision for the crew goes beyond just dance; it’s about creating opportunities for the children of Pari village. Under the guidance of Mr. Kidu, and with the support of Mr. George Tau, a well-known figure in the PNG dance community who serves as the Country Director for WSB, the team has embarked on an exciting journey filled with hope and ambition.
### Fundraising Efforts: Community Support in Action
Recognizing the financial challenges associated with such a monumental trip, Mr. Kidu expressed gratitude for the parents and guardians who have rallied together to support the crew. The team comprises 10 dancers, two technical officers, and one manager, with several parents volunteering to accompany the children to Dubai. Despite lacking corporate sponsorship, the JPC has initiated various fundraising activities to cover the costs of travel and participation.
### Innovative Initiatives: Creative Ways to Raise Funds
The commitment of the JPC to make this dream a reality is evident in their proactive fundraising initiatives. They’ve already hosted a successful Concert Night in Pari, where the community came together to support the dancers. Additionally, they’re selling traditional food dishes and have organized a corporate dinner scheduled for June 14, hosted at the Dynasty restaurant in Vision City.
Further fundraising activities include a cleanathon, which will take place in prominent locations such as Ela Beach and other city areas. These initiatives are not only aimed at raising money but also at fostering community spirit and involvement, showcasing the dedication of both the dancers and their supporters.
### Call for Support: The Future of Young Dancers
As the Junior Poly Crew prepares for the transformative experience of competing at the World Supremacy Battlegrounds, they extend a heartfelt invitation for support. Donations and sponsorships, regardless of size, will significantly impact these children’s lives and help them showcase their extraordinary talent on a world stage. The commitment of the Pari village community, parents, and local stakeholders exemplifies the power of collective effort in nurturing the next generation of dance talent.
