Iran War Escalates: 15 Dead as US-Israel Strikes Intensify on Day 16

The United States and Israel conducted airstrikes on Isfahan, Iran, early Sunday, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 individuals. This attack marks the 16th day of escalating conflict, with Iran responding by launching missile barrages targeting Israel and Gulf nations.

Sirens sounded across central Israel as Iranian forces retaliated, indicating a significant escalation in hostilities. The ongoing conflict has seen Tehran intensifying its military actions in the region.

Developments in Iran

In the aftermath of the strikes, reports indicate that residential areas in Shiraz, the capital of Fars province, were also targeted. The Tasnim news agency described the strikes as a “terrorist and anti-human act” by what it termed the “Zionist-American criminal regime.”

The attack on Isfahan not only resulted in fatalities but also left several others injured. Additionally, Iranian authorities arrested 20 individuals in northwestern Iran for allegedly collaborating with Israel by providing location data on military assets.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the initiation of its “50th wave” of operations against US military bases in the region, claiming these operations targeted US forces in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Kuwait.

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the US had utilized cruise missiles launched from the UAE, warning that further retaliation could escalate tensions in the region. He also addressed rumors regarding the new supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, asserting that there were “no problems” regarding his condition.

Tehran’s governor reported extensive damage, with at least 10,000 homes either damaged or destroyed due to the ongoing conflict. Since the onset of hostilities on February 28, over 1,400 individuals have reportedly lost their lives, with US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth claiming that at least 15,000 “enemy targets” have been struck.

Situation in Gulf Countries

In Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Defence reported the interception of four drones in the Riyadh metropolitan area. The ongoing retaliatory attacks from Iran have resulted in at least two fatalities and 12 injuries. Earlier, six ballistic missiles aimed at the al-Kharj governorate were also intercepted.

The IRGC claimed responsibility for launching 10 missiles and several drones targeting US forces at the al-Dhafra airbase in the UAE. Smoke was observed rising from the port of Fujairah following a drone interception incident that injured a Jordanian citizen.

In Bahrain, authorities activated sirens, urging residents to remain calm and seek safety. The Ministry of Interior reported the arrest of six individuals for spreading misinformation about Iranian attacks, with at least two fatalities and numerous injuries reported.

Kuwait reported that two missiles struck the perimeter of the Ahmad al-Jaber airbase, injuring three soldiers. Drones also targeted facilities at Kuwait’s international airport, damaging part of its radar system. Qatar’s Ministry of Defence confirmed the interception of all ballistic missiles and drones launched from Iran.

Developments in the United States

President Donald Trump stated that Iran “wants to make a deal,” but emphasized that the terms were not yet favorable. He reiterated his commitment to securing safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz with the assistance of allied nations.

Trump raised questions about the condition of Mojtaba Khamenei, suggesting uncertainty regarding his status following claims of severe injuries. He characterized the US strikes on Kharg Island as having “totally demolished” much of the area, hinting at the possibility of further strikes.

The administration has faced criticism for its handling of the conflict, with a recent poll indicating that 53% of US voters oppose the attacks. Nearly three-quarters of those surveyed do not support deploying ground forces to Iran.

Situation in Israel

Israel’s Ministry of Health reported that 108 individuals were hospitalized due to injuries sustained from the ongoing conflict. Air raid sirens were activated throughout the night as missile and rocket fire from Iran and Hezbollah targeted various locations, including central Israel.

Fragments from intercepted Iranian missiles fell in areas near Tel Aviv, causing additional damage. Reports indicate that Israel is facing a critical shortage of ballistic missile interceptors as the conflict continues.

Developments in Lebanon

Hezbollah is actively engaged in combat against Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, where air raids and artillery strikes have intensified. The group reported targeting Israeli soldiers and artillery positions in the region.

Israeli attacks have resulted in civilian casualties, with reports indicating that at least five individuals, including a child, have died, and several others have been injured. The World Health Organization confirmed that 14 health workers were killed in the recent violence.

Iraq and Jordan

The US Embassy in Baghdad has urged all American citizens to leave Iraq immediately due to the heightened threat from Iran-aligned militia groups. Iraqi authorities reported repeated attacks near Baghdad’s international prison and the central airport prison.

In Jordan, the military intercepted 79 of the 85 missiles and drones launched by Iran targeting vital sites. At least 14 individuals have been reported injured as a result of these strikes.
