Indian Pickleball Prodigy Harsh Mehta Strengthens Position With APP Tour Contract After Stellar Asian Season
Indian pickleball player Harsh Mehta has secured a significant contract with the APP Tour, the United States’ developmental circuit for pickleball, following a successful season in Asia. The APP Tour features year-round competitions for both amateur and professional athletes, and this contract paves the way for Mehta to potentially compete on the PPA Tour, the pinnacle of professional pickleball in the U.S.
Strong Performance in Asia
Mehta’s contract with the APP Tour was influenced by his impressive accomplishments in various tournaments across Asia. Notably, he claimed a gold medal in Malaysia and a gold at the Japan Open, as well as securing a bronze medal at the US Open. Although he did not medal at the event in Vietnam, his overall performance showcased remarkable consistency throughout the season.
In December 2025, he represented the Chennai Super Warriors during the inaugural Indian Pickleball League (IPBL) in New Delhi. His leadership skills were highlighted as he captained the team to remain unbeaten in the round-robin phase of the competition. Despite their strong record, they were eliminated in Qualifier 2 by the eventual champions, the Mumbai Smashers.
Career Highlights and Resilience
Harsh Mehta’s journey to prominence in pickleball has been characterized by perseverance. Born in Surat and raised in Mumbai, he faced significant health challenges in his early years, including chronic bronchitis and mild asthma. These medical issues initially constrained his activities and shaped his early childhood.
Mehta recalled that his entry into sports was driven not by ambition but by medical recommendations urging his family to help him build lung capacity through physical activity. He started with table tennis, where he achieved top rankings within Mumbai and Maharashtra, earning a bronze medal at the National Championships. However, the demands of combining sports with academics led him to step back from table tennis.
Years later, he rediscovered his passion when he encountered pickleball. Balancing his studies with a growing commitment to the sport, Mehta obtained an MBA in Marketing from KJ Somaiya Institute of Management. This background equipped him with the knowledge to navigate his career in sports, especially as pickleball gained popularity in India.
Encouraged by the sport’s rapid growth, Mehta made the pivotal decision to focus exclusively on pickleball after completing his education.
