India’s artistic landscape has long captivated the global stage, with its rich cultural heritage and contemporary expressions intertwining to shape international dialogues. At Art Dubai 2025, this vibrant creativity will shine brightly as 11 Indian galleries present the work of approximately 30 artists, embodying the essence of both tradition and modernity. Spanning various segments of the fair—Contemporary, Modern, and Bawwaba—India’s presence will affirm its role as a cultural powerhouse.

Contemporary Highlights

The Contemporary section at Art Dubai 2025 promises to be a melting pot of diverse artistic expressions. Galleries like Project 88 and Experimenter highlight the ingenuity within India’s art scene. One standout in this mix is Divya Singh, represented by Shrine Empire. Singh’s work, deeply rooted in painting, explores themes of memory, time, and mortality. With a practice that draws from photography, writing, cinema, and artist books, she engages viewers in a lyrical discourse on existence.

His emphasis on improvisation and self-portraiture offers a profound exploration of identity and transformation, inviting audiences to reflect on everyday acts.

Additionally, the renowned sculptor Anish Kapoor will also be featured by Galleria Continua, showcasing his conceptual art that often revolves around minimalist geometry and thought-provoking forms.

Another pivotal player in India’s art scene, Chemould Prescott Road will present Mithu Sen, known for her interactive and conceptual works that challenge societal norms and hierarchies. Through a blend of drawing, performance, poetry, sound, and installation, Sen’s art invites viewers into conversations about identity and taboo subjects.

Here, Indian artist Abishek Ganesh J, also known as Kaimurai, will be represented by Blueprint12. The Art Dubai Modern section, curated by Magalí Arriola and Nada Shabout, pays tribute to the pivotal figures of 20th-century art. A highlight here is the presentation of Maqbool Fida Husain by DAG, a cornerstone in modern Indian art. Husain, known for his eclectic style and profound connection to Indian culture, reflects the secular complexity of India’s identity through his diverse body of work, which includes painting cinema hoardings and being a founding member of the Progressive Artists’ Group.
