The Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI) has unveiled the first batch of companies that have received the Dubai AI Seal, with IBM among the honorees.
### The Dubai AI Seal Initiative
In February 2024, the government of Dubai launched the ‘Dubai AI Seal,’ a pioneering certification aimed at building trust in artificial intelligence (AI) companies. This initiative plays a crucial role in positioning Dubai as a global leader in AI innovation. It aligns seamlessly with the Dubai Universal Blueprint for AI, introduced in April 2024, which emphasizes a structured approach to integrating AI within the fabric of the city’s economy and governance.
### Objective and Impact
The Dubai AI Seal is designed to establish a network of reliable AI companies that both governmental entities and private businesses can depend on for secure AI solutions. By promoting a trusted environment for AI development and implementation, the seal not only bolsters public confidence but also grants companies a competitive edge in government procurement processes and significant national projects.
“We launched the Dubai AI Seal initiative to create a comprehensive framework that fosters partnerships between government entities and specialized technology companies working on AI applications in Dubai, the UAE, and beyond,” shared Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister. This statement underscores the strategic importance of collaboration in fostering an advanced AI ecosystem.
### First Batch of Seal Recipients
The DCAI recently announced the inaugural group of companies awarded the Dubai AI Seal, with IBM standing out as the sole non-Emirati company to achieve the prestigious top tier, level S. This classification system consists of six tiers—E, D, C, B, A, and S—where level S signifies the highest level of economic impact within the AI sector.
Recipients of the Dubai AI Seal are authorized to display this accolade across their digital platforms and promotional materials, signifying their commitment to reliability and excellence in the AI domain.
### IBM’s Involvement
Commenting on this significant achievement, Lula Mohanty, Global Managing Partner for Strategic Sales at IBM Consulting, expressed excitement at receiving the Dubai AI Seal. “This important certification recognizes leadership in secure, responsible, and high-quality AI. As the only non-Emirati company to achieve this top tier, this reflects IBM’s deep commitment to AI excellence and our strong partnership in the UAE’s digital journey.”
This recognition highlights IBM’s role as a key player in the global AI landscape and showcases its dedication to fostering innovative solutions in partnership with the UAE.
### Dubai’s AI Landscape
Today, Dubai holds the title of the world’s premier destination for attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) in AI, measured as a percentage of GDP. Moreover, it ranks seventh globally in readiness to adopt AI applications, illustrating a robust framework for technological advancement. This dynamic environment sets the stage for collaborative efforts between the public and private sectors in harnessing AI for economic growth.
According to Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of Dubai Future Foundation—which oversees DCAI—the Dubai AI Seal is poised to create impactful partnerships that extend beyond local boundaries. “It will help drive new economic opportunities by leveraging AI to better serve the economy, society, and the future we aspire to,” he stated, further emphasizing the potential transformative power of AI in addressing societal needs.
### The Road Ahead
With the Dubai AI Seal initiative, Dubai is paving the way for a future where AI not only enhances business practices but also contributes substantially to societal well-being. The collaboration between governmental frameworks and private sector innovations will undoubtedly shape the landscape of AI in the region, fostering a culture of trust and excellence that can be a model for other cities worldwide.
