From Disney World and Therme Dubai to Marjan Island: The UAE’s Thriving Tourism Boom of 2025

Date:

Disney World in Abu Dhabi

The announcement of Disney World & Resort on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, heralds a transformative era for the UAE’s tourism and entertainment landscape. Scheduled to open in 2025, this monumental project represents Disney’s return to global expansion nearly a decade after the last addition to its world-renowned portfolio. Abu Dhabi becomes the seventh city worldwide to host a Disney Resort, further solidifying its status as a premier international tourist destination.

Cultural Oasis alongside Disney World

Surrounding this spectacular attraction, Abu Dhabi is invested in a variety of cultural developments that enhance its allure. The Saadiyat Cultural District is poised to become a beacon of art and heritage, housing significant institutions like the Zayed National Museum, the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, TeamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi—a cutting-edge digital art museum—and the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. This cultural hub, paired with the joy and vibrancy of Disney World, presents a unique juxtaposition of entertainment and education.

The Butterfly Reserve

In a delightful twist, Abu Dhabi is set to unveil its first interactive Butterfly Reserve this year, which is part of the broader “Abu Dhabi Butterfly Garden” initiative. This enchanting habitat will showcase over 10,000 butterflies within climate-controlled domes designed to replicate diverse ecosystems from around the globe. Visitors can expect to wander through lush tropical landscapes, offering a serene escape into nature. The interactive element promises an engaging learning experience for guests of all ages.

Therme Dubai – A Landmark Resort

Just a stone’s throw away in Dubai, the announcement of Therme Dubai is generating immense excitement. Set to be the first of its kind in the Middle East and the largest globally, this holistic resort and interactive park aims to elevate wellness and recreation to new heights. With an estimated investment of Dh2 billion, this ambitious project in Zabeel Park is expected to span 500,000 square feet and will have room for up to 1.7 million visitors each year.

Advanced Wellness in Dubai

Therme Dubai is not just about relaxation; it aims to integrate health and leisure. Visitors can look forward to diverse thermal pools, natural therapy zones, and wellness-focused floors. Adding to the allure, a Michelin-starred restaurant will cater to culinary enthusiasts, while three breathtaking waterfalls, each a towering 18 meters, will bring the beauty of nature into the resort.

The city is further enhancing its recreational offerings with projects like the Mushrif National Park Hiking Trail, Dubai’s first and longest urban mountain pathway. This trail will feature the Mushrif Hub, integrating various leisure services, while the Hatta Mountain Bike Trail presents an exhilarating 86 km of cycling routes and hiking pathways for adventure lovers.

Downtown Umm Al Quwain

In Umm Al Quwain, the Downtown Umm Al Quwain project is taking shape, covering an impressive 25 million square feet along the emirate’s coastline. This massive undertaking will include an 11 km-long waterfront that boasts 7 km of natural beaches and an array of public parks. In addition, Lux Glamp, a new eco-tourism destination, is set to enhance the local tourism experience in the Umm Al Quwain Mangrove Reserve, offering tranquil yet luxurious accommodations.

The Department of Tourism and Antiquities is also pushing forward with the second phase of the Al Khor Waterfront project, designed to be a comprehensive hub for leisure, retail, sports, and culture, reflecting the emirate’s commitment to enriching its tourism portfolio.

Marjan Island & Luxury Hotels in Ras Al Khaimah

Meanwhile, Ras Al Khaimah is on the brink of an accommodation boom, with plans for new luxury hotels on Marjan Island. Notable mentions include the NH Collection Ras Al Khaimah Marjan Island with 156 rooms, the Fairmont Marjan Island boasting 250 rooms, and the Taj Wellington Mews Marjan Island featuring 336 hotel apartments. The Four Seasons Resort & Residences Ras Al Khaimah at Mina Al Arab will offer 150 rooms, tailoring to those seeking high-end luxury.

Also noteworthy is the recent opening of Rove Marjan Island, a modern beachfront resort designed with inclusivity in mind, providing facilities for guests of determination. Among the most anticipated developments is the Wynn Resort Marjan Island, set to feature over 1,500 rooms and suites, alongside stunning amenities including multiple swimming pools and a beautifully landscaped tropical garden.

Avani+ Fujairah Resort

Fujairah is not left behind, either. Minor Hotels has announced plans for the Avani+ Fujairah Resort, expected to open in 2028. This beachfront property will offer breathtaking views of the Gulf of Oman and include 232 contemporary rooms along with 16 spacious villas boasting three to five bedrooms each.

From the whimsical charm of Disney World to immersive cultural experiences and luxurious accommodation developments, the UAE is poised for a remarkable evolution in tourism and leisure. Each of these projects serves to enhance the vibrancy of the region, making it a go-to destination for travelers seeking adventure, relaxation, and cultural enlightenment.
