Explosions Rock Dubai as Iran Launches Ongoing Attacks on Gulf, Resulting in Casualties
A series of explosions has been reported in Dubai for the second consecutive day as Iran continues its military strikes in the Gulf region, responding to recent attacks from the United States and Israel. Witnesses in Dubai and Doha, Qatar, reported hearing blasts, which authorities attributed to successful interception operations by local defense systems.
Rising Tensions and Casualties
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Defence confirmed that Iran has launched 165 ballistic missiles, two cruise missiles, and 541 drones toward the UAE. As a result of these attacks, three people have been killed, and 58 others have sustained injuries. Thick black smoke was observed rising from the Jebel Ali port area, where debris from intercepted missiles caused a fire at one of the berths.
In a statement from the Dubai Media Office, it was reported that two individuals were injured when shrapnel from intercepted drones fell on their homes.
Damage Across the Region
The Iranian strikes have targeted various locations, including Dubai’s international airport, the iconic Burj Al Arab hotel, and the artificial Palm Jumeirah Island, all of which have suffered damage. Authorities confirmed that debris from intercepted drones caused injuries at two residences in Dubai.
Bahrain’s National Communications Centre also reported that their defense forces responded to a wave of Iranian missiles and drones aimed at the Kingdom. The Crown Plaza Hotel in Manama was damaged, but there were no casualties. Residents were advised to seek safety and avoid main roads.
Injuries and Ongoing Threats
In Abu Dhabi, a woman and her child were injured when drone debris struck the façade of a building at Etihad Towers. The local media office reported that both sustained minor injuries, and there was minor damage to the structure. Additionally, one Asian national was killed, and at least seven others were injured when a drone targeting Zayed International Airport was intercepted.
Debris from a drone ignited a fire at the Burj Al Arab hotel, although authorities stated that the fire was contained to the outer facade and no injuries were reported. Four individuals were injured in a separate incident at Dubai International Airport, leading to the evacuation of terminals.
International Reactions
UK Ambassador to the UAE, Edward Hobart, advised British nationals to shelter in place. In a video message, he acknowledged the distress caused by the ongoing attacks and expressed gratitude for the swift actions of UAE defense forces in intercepting the missiles and drones.
Israel has reportedly launched additional strikes against Iranian targets, while U.S. President Donald Trump issued a warning against further Iranian aggression, stating that any additional attacks would be met with unprecedented force.
The recent escalation follows the confirmed death of Iranian leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in an airstrike, prompting Iranian officials to announce the formation of a temporary leadership council.
As the situation continues to develop, air raid sirens have been activated across Israel, with explosions heard in Tel Aviv as the country’s air defense systems work to counter the Iranian offensive.
