Tarjama Secures $15 Million Series A Funding to Revolutionize Arabic Language AI
Dubai-Based Growth and Expansion
In a significant move for the MENA region’s tech landscape, Tarjama, a Dubai-headquartered language technology company, has successfully raised $15 million in a Series A funding round. This funding round was spearheaded by Global Ventures, with contributions from notable investors including Wamda Capital, TA Ventures, Phaze Capital, Golden Gate Ventures, and Endeavor Catalyst. With this latest infusion of capital, Tarjama’s total funding has exceeded $20 million, building upon a previous $5 million round in 2019.
Empowering Arabic AI Solutions
Founded in 2008 by Nour Al Hassan, Tarjama is on a mission to enhance AI capabilities for Arabic-speaking populations. The company intends to utilize the new funding to roll out its Arabic.AI agentic ecosystem, uniquely crafted to address the complexities of business processes in the region. This approach aims to empower organizations with AI agents specifically tailored to meet their distinct needs, showcasing a commitment to serving the Arabic-speaking world better.
Impressive Growth Trajectory
Tarjama has demonstrated a strong track record in its 16 years of operation, achieving a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 20% over the last three years. This growth has occurred while maintaining profitability, underscoring the company’s sound business practices. With a language-processing capability that has surpassed two billion words across more than 50 languages and 22 Arabic dialects, Tarjama has established a substantial global presence spanning over 30 markets.
Nour Al Hassan’s Vision
Nour Al Hassan, the founder and CEO of Tarjama, expressed excitement over closing the Series A funding round, thanking Global Ventures and other investors for backing the company’s forward-thinking vision. "Arabic has been underserved by AI for too long. Our flagship product, Pronoia, changes that – it is far faster, more secure, and cost-effective," she stated. The emphasis on Arabic language capabilities marks a significant gap in the global AI landscape.
Launch of the Arabic.ai Platform
At the heart of Tarjama’s innovations is the Arabic.ai platform, featuring the proprietary Pronoia V2, an advanced Arabic Large Language Model (LLM). The company asserts that Pronoia outperforms global models such as GPT-4o, DeepSeek-V3, and Cohere in tasks specifically related to Arabic language processing. This innovation seeks to bridge the longstanding gaps in Arabic AI capabilities, catering to the needs of approximately 400 million Arabic speakers within a $3 trillion economy.
Transforming Business Operations
Nour’s vision goes beyond mere technological advancements; she identified the hurdles enterprises face when working with Arabic. "Pronoia transforms day-long tasks into minutes – fundamentally changing how companies can operate in Arabic markets," she elaborated. This transformative capability will likely enable many organizations to streamline operations that have historically been cumbersome and resource-intensive.
Support from Key Investors
Murad, Senior Partner at Global Ventures, shared his enthusiasm regarding the investment. "We’re excited to lead Tarjama’s Series A fundraise and support Nour and her incredible team," he noted. Murad highlighted several competitive advantages that Tarjama possesses — both in technical and cultural realms. With a state-of-the-art LLM that is purpose-built for the region, Tarjama is well-positioned to become a dominant player in a market where other AI tools have frequently fallen short.
Future Plans and Strategic Growth
As part of its ambitious growth strategy, Tarjama aims to double the size of its research and engineering teams. The company is focused on expanding its infrastructure with new models and AI agents across various industries and functions. A notable initiative in their roadmap includes the launch of an AI Academy intended to educate and upskill hundreds of enterprise and government leaders in advanced AI deployment over the next 18 months.
Through its innovative strides and strategic investments, Tarjama is not just enhancing business operations within the Arabic-speaking world; it is setting a precedent for how language technology companies can tackle regional challenges, ultimately aiming for a more inclusive AI ecosystem.
