Dubai’s Transport System Shines During 2026 New Year’s Eve Celebrations

Over 2.8 Million Passengers Served

In early January 2026, Dubai celebrated its New Year’s Eve festivities with impressive results in passenger transportation. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) reported that more than 2.8 million passengers utilized the city’s transport network during this peak time. This figure marks a notable 13% increase over the previous year’s ridership, which tallied 2.5 million passengers.

Strategic Planning and Coordination

This remarkable achievement can be attributed to a well-thought-out traffic and operational plan devised in collaboration with the Dubai Event Security Committee and other key stakeholders. This plan was instrumental in coordinating traffic management strategies and implementing temporary road closures throughout the Emirate, ensuring that mobility remained seamless and safety was prioritized.

A Focus on Safety and Mobility

The RTA emphasized that the coordinated effort was critical in facilitating safe travel to and from various celebration venues across Dubai. The operational strategies were carefully designed to maintain public safety while ensuring high levels of efficiency in passenger movement.

Breakdown of Ridership Figures

Metro and Tram Services

Detailed data provided by the RTA revealed substantial usage of the public transport system. The metro lines—Red and Green—were particularly busy, accommodating a total of 1,249,636 riders. Additionally, the Dubai Tram transported 58,052 passengers, contributing to the overall mobility metrics during this festive period.

Buses and Taxis

Public buses and on-demand bus services also saw robust usage, with a total of 503,264 passengers. Taxi services played a significant role as well, providing transport for 661,538 individuals. E-hailing services were equally popular, serving 286,135 passengers, showcasing the effectiveness of various transport options available to residents and visitors alike.

Marine Transport and Shared Mobility

Moreover, Dubai’s marine transportation options carried a total of 76,745 passengers across its various services. Shared mobility solutions also saw engagement, with 1,489 trips completed, reflecting the diversity of transportation methods available to the public.

Enhancing Dubai’s Global Image

The RTA’s successful facilitation of transport during the New Year’s celebrations highlights the city’s robust transport infrastructure and ability to host large-scale events efficiently. This accomplishment not only underscores Dubai’s readiness but also reinforces its reputation as a global leader in organizing major events.

Through strategic planning and an integrated approach to traffic management, Dubai continues to set high international standards for public transportation, making its celebrations accessible and enjoyable for all.
