Joel Stalter: Harmonizing Golf and Music in Dubai
For many athletes, life on tour revolves around the next shot or round, but for French golfer Joel Stalter, it’s increasingly about rhythm and beats. Now rooted in Dubai, the 32-year-old balances his time competing on the Asian Tour with his burgeoning career as a part-time DJ under the alias "DJINO."
The Dubai Connection
Stalter’s bond with Dubai runs deep. More than just a training ground, the city nurtured his creative expression. As a recipient of a UAE Golden Visa, he has immersed himself in the vibrant golfing scene and the stimulating music environment this cosmopolitan city offers. “Music has always been a big part of my life,” he shares. “I studied percussion and solfège as a child, and I’ve always found a rhythm whether I’m practicing or traveling.”
His musical journey took a meaningful turn when a friend, an experienced DJ and producer, introduced him to the rich culture of vinyl and house music. “His passion was contagious,” Stalter recalls, describing how the friend’s dedication to music inspired him to dive deeper into this creative outlet.
From Tee Times to Turntables
What began as a way to unwind on tour—collecting records during idle moments—eventually evolved into mixing music. “I started creating mixes, not out of any ambition, but simply to share the music that resonates with me,” he explains. This newfound passion has created a bridge between two realms—golf and music—that now coexist and inspire one another.
Stalter’s performances have found a cozy home at Tap Line, a speakeasy bar in Dubai’s DIFC. “The vibe resonates—urban and laid-back, yet distinct from the usual DIFC crowd,” he explains. His admiration extends to the staff, whose warmth and passion create an inspiring environment for creativity.
Balancing Athleticism and Creativity
On the golf course, Stalter is steadily building his momentum. In 2025 alone, he has participated in three events, with his best finish being tied for 40th at the International Series in Macau. But more than the rank, it’s the personal moments that matter: “I birdied the last two holes in Macau to make the cut, which was a turning point for me,” he reflects. “It wasn’t just about the golf; it reflected the inner work I’ve done.”
Much of this inner work has revolved around mental fitness. Stalter emphasizes the importance of physical training but has recently directed his attention to the mental aspect of the game. Collaborating closely with a sports psychologist, he has learned to embrace his creative side, finding that music helps him reconnect with himself.
The Interplay of Music and Golf
For Stalter, the relationship between music and golf is much deeper than a simple metaphor. “Mixing, like golf, relies on rhythm, intuition, and presence,” he explains. “While the performances differ, the core principles remain the same.” What started as a hobby has now become part of his daily life. Music serves as a medium for self-expression, tapping into the creative energy that fuels his competitive spirit.
“Each passion nurtures the other,” he notes, describing how embracing one helps him excel in the other.
Path Forward
Currently, ranked 101st in the 2025 International Series Asian Tour Order of Merit, Stalter enjoys a period of consistency—having not missed a cut since last August. This milder tournament schedule gives him the freedom to explore life beyond golf. “There’s now an opportunity for personal growth,” he states. “While golf is my primary focus, music complements my journey, offering a space for reflection and connection to my true self.”
With one foot on the fairway and the other on the dance floor, Joel Stalter embodies a modern athlete who recognizes that true excellence often stems not just from hard work but also from passion and creative expression. As a proud resident of Dubai, he stands as a figure the city can rally behind—not just for his golf prowess but for the beats he spins under the city lights.
