FlyDubai Business Class Review: A Journey from Dubai to Male

With a primary focus on connecting travelers to diverse destinations, FlyDubai has carved a niche for itself in the competitive airline industry.

Check-in Experience
Timing and Process
Scheduled for a rather early departure at 1:10 AM, my flight from Terminal 3 provided an unexpected advantage. Upon checking in, I was offered an opportunity to bid for an upgrade. I placed the lowest bid possible at $245, and to my surprise, it was accepted without a hitch. The business class check-in was a breeze, free from queues, and I was granted access to the luxurious Emirates Business Class Lounge, a significant perk of flying from Terminal 3.
Baggage Policy
In business class, passengers are permitted a generous allowance:
- Checked luggage: Up to 40 kilograms across up to three bags.
- Cabin baggage: Two bags with a combined weight of up to 14 kilograms.
Loyalty Program
FlyDubai’s loyalty scheme is tied to the Emirates Skywards program. Although it lacks a global alliance, travelers can earn Skywards points solely when flying with FlyDubai, adding a layer of value for frequent flyers.
The Business Class Seat
Cabin Layout
The business class cabin features 10 seats arranged in either a 2-2 or alternating 1-1 layout. My seat (2B) was the only one on my side, providing ample space with oversized sides that added comfort to the aisle and window experience. It is a lie-flat seat, though newer aircraft feature only reclinable seats.
Dimensions
With a seat length of 78 inches (198 cm) when fully reclined and a pitch of 45 inches (114 cm), comfort is a priority, although the resulting cozy footwell can feel restrictive for taller individuals. The seat comes with a pillow and blanket but lacks an amenity kit or mattress, a point to consider for long-haul flyers.
Entertainment and Technology
In-Flight Amenities
Upon boarding, I discovered that the in-flight entertainment system was out of service, which was disappointing. Similarly, the power outlets were non-functional, leaving no means to charge devices. This lack of functionality left business class passengers without any entertainment options, and a follow-up email was relayed to address our grievances.
Cabin Crew Service
Despite the technical issues, the flight crew were friendly and understanding, accommodating our needs during meal service, although their presence was limited due to the short nature of the flight.
Dining Experience
Meal Service
Prior to takeoff, refreshments were offered, with champagne served only once we reached cruising altitude. The meal service was confined to breakfast options:
- Starters: Seasonal fruits, Greek yoghurt with granola, and baked pastries.
- Mains: A choice between a cheese omelette, crepes, and an Arabic mezze, which I opted for—a delightful late-night snack consisting of vine leaves, hummus, a boiled egg, olives, and carrot sticks.
Sustainability Initiatives
FlyDubai is committed to the Emirati government’s target of achieving net zero by 2050, emphasizing its responsibility towards sustainable aviation.
Network and Future Destinations
FlyDubai connects travelers to an extensive route network from Dubai, including seasonal summer flights to sought-after destinations such as Mykonos, Dubrovnik, Corfu, and Santorini.
Pricing
Business Class Fares: Round trip flights from Dubai to Male start from approximately $3400, making it a reasonable investment for travelers seeking comfort and efficiency.
Final Thoughts on FlyDubai Business Class
FlyDubai’s business class promises a relatively enjoyable experience, especially considering it is a budget airline. However, travelers should remain cautious, particularly when potential technical issues arise, as my flight experience highlighted. While the lie-flat seats are among the best in the market, the lack of functional entertainment and the response to the service problems could detract from the overall value.
Despite these drawbacks, FlyDubai remains a viable choice for those looking to explore exciting destinations while enjoying a taste of luxury without breaking the bank.
