The Future of Travel: Insights from Arabian Travel Market 2025 in Dubai
Creating Memories Through Technology
For most tourists, traveling is about creating unforgettable memories and sharing stories from their adventures. With this in mind, the travel industry is increasingly incorporating technology to enhance these experiences. The Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2025, held in Dubai from April 28 to May 1, showcased various innovations aimed at enriching tourism under the theme: “Global Travel: Developing Tomorrow’s Tourism Through Enhanced Connectivity.”
Innovative Experiences at the Innovation Zone
At the heart of the ATM 2025 was The Klick Agency’s innovation zone, situated in Za’abeel Hall 1 of the Dubai World Trade Centre. According to Bram van de Ven, the agency’s chief technical officer, their mission was to showcase experiences that unite storytelling with destination discovery.
“We’ve got some augmented reality (AR) experiences that allow you to step into a destination,” he highlighted during an interview. The aim is to effectively bring stories to life, creating a vivid anticipation of travel long before the journey begins.
Virtual Reality: A New Lens on Travel
One of the standout features at the innovation zone was the immersive virtual reality (VR) experiences. Van de Ven noted how this technology enables visitors to essentially step into different worlds. “For example, you can actually step into a hotel room and visualize it,” he explained, highlighting how VR can enhance the pre-travel experience by providing deeper insights into destinations.
“To enhance the travel experience, our AR and VR features are available through widely-used platforms like Snapchat and TikTok,” he added, making these technologies accessible without requiring a dedicated app or headset.
Data-Driven Pricing Solutions for Hotels
While Klick focuses on direct customer engagement, other companies like IDeaS Revenue Solutions operate more behind the scenes. Klaus Kohlmayr, the company’s chief evangelist, revealed the data-driven approach that helps hotels optimize their pricing strategies.
With a network of 35,000 hotels worldwide, IDeaS leverages various external data sources, including competitor prices and guest reviews, to compute optimal room rates. “We run this data through our algorithms to determine the best pricing for the next 12 to 24 months, specific to different segments and room types,” he explained.
Kohlmayr also shared insights about a new product that helps marketing professionals identify “need periods”—times when demand usually dips. This data empowers hotels to better allocate their marketing budgets.
Streamlining Visa Processes with Technology
Equally vital to the travel equation are the necessary visas, an area where One Vasco shines. Arshad Shaikh, senior manager of sales for One Vasco’s Dubai hub, elaborated on their newly launched app. “It helps users search for visa requirements according to their nationality and enables online applications,” he said.
Currently, the company’s AI capabilities are focused on administrative tasks, such as extracting data from passports to auto-fill application forms. Looking ahead, Shaikh envisions a future where AI could aggregate visa information from various government portals, keeping information up-to-date seamlessly.
ATM 2025: A Significant Gathering for the Travel Industry
ATM 2025 was not just about showcasing technologies; it served as a key networking event, attracting over 55,000 professionals from 166 countries. Dubai’s Crown Prince H.H. Sheikh Hamdan emphasized the importance of this initiative in fostering global connections and investments in the tourism sector.
“This year’s ATM once again reflects the UAE’s role in bridging global markets and shaping the future of global travel,” he stated. His remarks underline the significance of exhibitions and conferences as vital elements of the UAE’s economy, driving investment and knowledge sharing across various industries.
Through the innovations displayed at ATM 2025, from immersive AR experiences to sophisticated pricing algorithms and streamlined visa applications, it is clear that technology is playing a crucial role in shaping the future of travel. Each interaction serves to not only enhance the travel experience but also to tell richer stories that travelers will cherish for years to come.
