Dubai Sports Council Launches “Our Summer is Sporty” Initiative

A Hub of Diverse Activities

The Dubai Sports Council has unveiled an exciting initiative titled “Our Summer is Sporty,” aimed at creating a vibrant culture of physical activity during the summer months. Running until the end of August, this initiative promises a comprehensive lineup of sports events catering to all segments of society—from residents to visitors of all ages and nationalities. With an emphasis on inclusivity and engagement, it invites everyone to partake in an active lifestyle and enjoy the lively summer atmosphere that Dubai has to offer.

Introducing the Snow Duathlon

Among the standout features of this initiative is the pioneering Snow Duathlon, set to take place on June 29 at Ski Dubai. This event represents the first of its kind and will be complemented by a series of other innovative activities such as indoor mall races and stationary cycling competitions in a snowy setting. The aim is to provide unique sporting experiences that are accessible to a broad audience.

A Multifaceted Sports Experience

The range of events encapsulated in “Our Summer is Sporty” is impressive, spanning various sports, including beach, snow, water, and mountain activities. With events tailored specifically for different demographics—like women’s and People of Determination events—the initiative aligns seamlessly with Dubai’s vision to be one of the most active cities globally.

Highlights of Snow Sports

Located at Mall of the Emirates, Ski Dubai will serve as the epicenter for an array of snow sports activities. In addition to the Snow Duathlon, participants can look forward to snow yoga, snow walking, and family-friendly snow fitness classes. These events are designed to be engaging and cater to a range of skill levels, ensuring a professional and safe environment for everyone.

Among the exciting offerings is the unique snow yoga (or "Snoga"), which has gained popularity thanks to its invigorating cold temperatures, sometimes as low as minus 4 degrees Celsius. Other upcoming events include ice skating competitions and specialized programs for adaptive skiing for People of Determination.

Mountain Adventures in Hatta

Hatta is set to host an engaging assortment of summer sports events, made possible through the support of the Supreme Committee for Overseeing the Development of Hatta. Visitors can partake in mountain hiking, trail running, or even find peace through yoga sessions. For night owls, there will be magical night walks, along with air-conditioned indoor sports sessions, providing a refreshing escape from the summer heat.

Exciting Water Sports

For those who prefer to stay close to the water, Dubai’s stunning beaches and waterfront areas will feature a series of water sports events. Kayaking, stand-up paddling, and wakeboarding are just a few of the aquatic activities planned. The Dubai International Marine Club also has an Open Water Sports Day lined up, as well as an array of sailing races. This serves to highlight Dubai’s commitment to offering an extensive variety of water sports experiences for residents and tourists alike.

Unique Mall Races

In an unprecedented move, several indoor running races will occur across Dubai’s shopping malls, providing a climate-controlled and enjoyable environment for participants. These races not only offer a competitive edge but also ensure a fun summer experience for all. Mall events are scheduled at prominent locations, including:

  • Dubai Hills Mall: June 28 and July 13
  • Ibn Battuta Mall: July 13
  • City Centre Mirdif: July 6
  • Mall of the Emirates: August 3
  • Wafi Mall: August 10
  • Dubai Festival City Mall: August 31

Specialized Competitions and Training Camps

The initiative doesn’t just stop at races; it includes specialized training programs designed for various community groups. Women’s football and basketball tournaments are set to take place at Danube Sports World and Jam Sports Academy, while unique fitness classes for senior citizens are also on the calendar.

Young athletes will find numerous summer sports camps focused on swimming, gymnastics, and skating, all conducted under the supervision of certified coaches. Activities at Dubai Sports World and Danube Sports World will run from June 30 to August 22.

Additional Exciting Events

To further enrich the summer calendar, various competitions will take place, such as the World Curling Masters Tour at Dubai Ice Rink on July 4 and a high-stakes Fight Night Boxing Championship on the same day at The Crafty Fox, Jumeirah Golf Estates. Additionally, wrestling competitions and outdoor cycling events promise to engage both spectators and participants.

Collaborations for Community Engagement

The “Our Summer is Sporty” initiative is a collaboration between public and private sectors, uniting numerous governmental and private organizations. This collaborative effort aims to create a well-rounded sports experience, utilizing fully-equipped venues such as the Hamdan Sports Complex, Dubai Sports World, and Ski Dubai.

Commitment to Promoting an Active Lifestyle

Ultimately, “Our Summer is Sporty” embodies the Dubai Sports Council’s vision to integrate physical activity into the daily lives of residents and visitors. All events are carefully organized to uphold the highest safety and professional standards. As the initiative gathers momentum, more activities and events are anticipated in the weeks to come, ensuring that the community remains engaged and active throughout the summer months.

This summer, the Dubai Sports Council invites everyone to seize the opportunity to embrace an exhilarating lifestyle through various sports and activities, making “Our Summer is Sporty” a fixture in Dubai’s bustling summer calendar.
