The Dubai Sports Council (DSC) has officially kicked off the much-anticipated Dubai Open Football Academies Tournament (DOFA). This initiative emerges in partnership with the UAE Football Association and Delta Aid Sport, showcasing DSC’s dedication to nurturing young athletic talent. This tournament not only highlights Dubai’s ambition to solidify its status as a global sports hub but also encourages grassroots participation in sports across the region.

Tournament Overview

This year marks a significant milestone in the history of the DOFA, establishing itself as the most expansive tournament to date. The event has attracted an impressive 12,000 young athletes, comprising both boys and girls, who form 558 teams from 117 academies. Notably, 40 of these teams are dedicated to female players, reflecting the growing inclusivity of the sport. Participants span a wide age range, from just 6 years old to 23, ensuring that young talent at various stages can showcase their skills.

Record Growth in Participation

A key aspect of this year’s tournament is its remarkable growth compared to previous editions. Player participation has surged by 9.1%, alongside an 11.6% increase in the number of teams, rising from 11,000 players and 500 teams in the previous iteration. These statistics demonstrate the event’s expanding appeal and highlight its role as a vital platform for developing and promoting football in the UAE.

Competitive Format and Locations

The tournament adopts a single-round league system, which integrates competitive fairness with exciting play. Additionally, it includes a Super Cup competition that features the top winners from each group. Matches are scheduled throughout the sports season at nine different venues, including the renowned Dubai Sports City, which further broadens access and participation for the academies involved.

Commitment to Youth Development

The DOFA Tournament is a testament to the DSC’s unwavering commitment to nurturing youth talent. This initiative aligns with Dubai’s vision to not only develop sporting skills across various disciplines but also to unearth future stars who can contribute to the dynamic world of sports. The tournament is designed to provide a platform for young athletes to refine their skills in a professional environment, gain invaluable competitive experience, and embody the principles of fair play and teamwork.

Infrastructure and Safety Standards

In preparation for the tournament, all facilities and infrastructure have been meticulously designed to adhere to top international standards focusing on safety and professionalism. This ensures that both teams and participants will enjoy a high-quality experience, which is essential for encouraging young athletes to develop their talents further.

Fostering a Vibrant Football Community

Through the DOFA initiative, the DSC aims not only to promote football but also to foster a thriving community around the sport. By creating opportunities for young players to connect with their peers and develop their abilities, the tournament plays a crucial role in expanding the football base throughout the UAE.

The Dubai Open Football Academies Tournament is more than just a series of matches; it’s a commitment by the Dubai Sports Council to uplift the next generation of athletes and position Dubai as a primary hub for sporting excellence. With support from local and national organizations, this tournament is set to leave a lasting impact on the sporting landscape of the emirate.
