Dubai to Host ISEA 2026: A New Era of Cultural Innovation

Dubai’s Ascendance in the Global Art Scene

In a landmark achievement, Dubai has won the bid to host the 2026 International Symposium on Electronic Art (ISEA). This victory not only solidifies Dubai’s reputation as a global cultural epicenter but also highlights its commitment to fostering creativity and innovation. The announcement comes from the conclusion of this year’s symposium held in Seoul, South Korea, where delegates celebrated the emirate’s vibrant cultural landscape and robust infrastructure.

The Vision Behind ISEA 2026

Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture, expressed her excitement by stating that Dubai’s selection as host exemplifies its growing influence on the international art stage. She emphasized the emirate’s ambition to lead global conversations at the intersection of art, science, and technology. This drive for a creative ecosystem mirrors the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, illuminating Dubai as a cultural capital.

Empowering the Creative Community

The International Symposium on Electronic Art was established in 1988 in the Netherlands and is now overseen by the University for the Creative Arts in the UK. It brings together a diverse community of artists, designers, and technologists to focus on the evolving landscape of digital art.

Sheikha Latifa pointed out that hosting ISEA aligns perfectly with Dubai’s digital arts strategy, aimed at empowering artists and technologists to forge new creative pathways. This event will foster collaboration and knowledge exchange, enhancing Dubai’s appeal as a destination for creatives.

Zayed University’s Role

Partnering with Zayed University, the symposium will take place from April 10 to 17, 2026, under the theme ‘ELYAH: Constellating Place, Data and Identity.’ Expect a diverse array of events including workshops, panels, and networking opportunities at Dubai’s iconic cultural sites. This partnership aims to draw between 200 and 500 international participants, elevating the city’s profile within the global arts community.

Cultivating Talent and Innovation

Her Excellency Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture, noted that winning the bid for ISEA 2026 reflects the leadership’s vision to position Dubai as a hub for talent and innovation. This international symposium will allow Dubai’s creatives to engage with global counterparts while showcasing the city’s unique cultural identity.

The event promises to invigorate artistic momentum within the city, fostering valuable exchanges and sparking new conversations about the roles of science and technology in digital arts.

Themes of Inquiry and Exploration

The symposium will delve into four main themes:

  1. Charting Constellations: Investigating concepts of place and identity in the digital age.
  2. Celestial Dialogues: Exploring how the arts can promote intercultural dialogue.
  3. Eco-Tech Futures: Addressing environmental issues through the lens of electronic arts.
  4. Starlinked Worlds: Examining the ethical and philosophical implications of technological advancements.

Each theme will encourage participants to explore the intricate relationship between technology and human experience, pushing the boundaries of creativity.

A Future-Focused Perspective

Professor Michael Allen, Acting Vice President of Zayed University, conveyed pride in collaborating with Dubai Culture for the symposium. He emphasized that the event will serve as a dynamic platform for artists and scholars worldwide to explore how digital arts can drive sustainable progress and deepen cultural dialogue.

The chosen theme of ‘ELYAH’, named after a prominent star in the Arab region, symbolizes guidance and navigation—a fitting metaphor for the path forward in the digital arts landscape.

By blending artistic expression with cutting-edge technology, ISEA 2026 promises to present a forward-looking vision, one that encourages participants to forge connections across disciplines and ignite innovation.

Convergence of Cultures and Ideas

The symposium will spotlight not just the local talent but will also extend an invitation to a global audience interested in digital arts. It aims to showcase the landmarks and heritage that make Dubai a unique cultural landscape.

The ISEA 2026 will not just be a milestone for Dubai’s cultural community; it will serve as an immersive experience that highlights how creativity, technology, and community can come together for a brighter future.

With its commitment to embracing digital innovation and nurturing creative minds, Dubai stands on the brink of a transformative era—one that not only encompasses the rich heritage of the emirate but also looks forward to the possibilities of tomorrow in the world of digital arts.
