Dubai RTA Strengthens Strategic Partnerships with Leading Chinese Firms to Enhance Transport Innovation
DUBAI – The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has announced the expansion of its strategic partnerships with prominent Chinese companies and institutions. This initiative aims to leverage advanced expertise in artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and modern transportation technologies, particularly in the design and construction of bridge and tunnel networks.
This development is crucial for the RTA as it seeks to enhance the delivery of current and future projects, ensuring that Dubai’s transport system remains aligned with the emirate’s rapid urban and economic growth.
Official Delegation Visit to China
The announcement followed an official delegation visit to the People’s Republic of China, led by Mattar Al Tayer, the Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA. The visit was coordinated with the support of the Dubai International Chamber’s representative office in Shanghai and included several CEOs, directors, and young engineers from various RTA agencies.
During this visit, the RTA signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with CASCO SIGNAL LTD. and Huawei Technologies. These agreements aim to bolster cooperation in advanced technologies, artificial intelligence, smart transport systems, and rail infrastructure. The delegation also reviewed successful Chinese practices in developing transport infrastructure and implementing modern technologies for mobility management.
Establishing a Research and Development Centre
The MoU with CASCO SIGNAL LTD., a company specializing in signaling, communications, and control systems for metro and rail networks, focuses on establishing an advanced research and development center and innovation laboratory in Dubai. This center will be linked to the Dubai Metro Blue Line project and future metro initiatives.
The facility is designed to provide an integrated environment for system testing, functional verification, and training. It will facilitate technical testing under simulated operating conditions, thereby enhancing project readiness before service entry. Additionally, the laboratory will serve as a platform for local acceptance testing and technical verification, supporting the modernization of existing and future metro lines.
Collaboration with Huawei Technologies
The MoU with Huawei Technologies, a global leader in information and communications technology, aims to strengthen strategic cooperation in emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, information security, and traffic flow management. This partnership includes the exchange of technical expertise, joint workshops, and the implementation of proof-of-concept trials for advanced technology solutions.
Key areas of collaboration will focus on the development of smart city applications aligned with Dubai’s 20-Minute City vision, the establishment of unified data platforms for various transport systems, and the deployment of AI technologies for real-time incident detection and response.
Enhancing Operational Efficiency and Customer Service
Mattar Al Tayer emphasized that this visit reflects RTA’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships with leading global institutions. He noted that China’s advancements in transport and rail infrastructure, digital technologies, and artificial intelligence serve as a global model. The RTA aims to gain insights from these experiences to enhance Dubai’s transport system and keep pace with urban and economic growth.
Al Tayer stated that the MoUs signed during the visit underscore RTA’s commitment to expanding the use of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence across various operational areas. These efforts are expected to improve operational efficiency, enhance service quality, and elevate customer experience.
Meetings and Field Visits
The RTA delegation engaged in a series of meetings and field visits with leading Chinese government entities and companies specializing in transport, infrastructure, urban planning, and artificial intelligence. The program aimed to foster cooperation, exchange expertise, and explore future partnership opportunities.
The delegation reviewed Shanghai’s integrated transport management system, which serves a population of over 24 million residents. They visited the Command and Control Centre of the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission to learn about coordination mechanisms across different transport modes, including roads, metro, buses, and traffic management.
Additionally, the delegation explored the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Planning and Natural Resources, gaining insights into advanced transport planning practices, including the 15-minute city concept aimed at enhancing quality of life and reducing vehicle reliance.
Insights into Advanced Transport Technologies
The visit also included the Shanghai Maglev Ride Experience, showcasing one of the world’s fastest commercial train services. Delegates were briefed on the advanced technologies used in its operation and management, which support RTA’s efforts to anticipate future public transport needs.
The delegation examined several major road, bridge, and tunnel projects to learn about the latest design methodologies and technologies in infrastructure development. They also reviewed the Hongqiao Integrated Transport Hub, a leading model for integrating various transport modes, which contributes to improved mobility efficiency and quality of life.
Future Technologies in Transport
The program featured visits to companies specializing in rail and metro systems, autonomous driving, and artificial intelligence. The delegation reviewed the latest solutions for metro network operation, smart control systems, predictive maintenance, and smart logistics, aligning with RTA’s plans to incorporate future technologies into Dubai’s transport ecosystem.
