The RAK Biggest Weight Loss Challenge 2025 has made headlines with inspiring stories of transformation and remarkable achievements. Among the many participants, Amrith Raj, a 31-year-old Dubai resident from India, emerged as the Male Champion after a staggering weight loss of 45.7 kilograms. In recognition of this monumental achievement, he was awarded a prize of Dhs13,800 and has committed to participating again, demonstrating his ongoing dedication to health and fitness.
Amrith wasn’t alone in his journey to a healthier life; he was one of the top ten winners in the highly competitive challenge, which highlights the collective efforts of individuals striving for wellness. The 5th annual RAK Biggest Weight Loss Challenge is a nationwide initiative organized by RAK Hospital in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP), Ras Al Khaimah.
In the female category, the title of Female Champion went to Muhammad Yaqoob, a 42-year-old Pakistani national living in Dubai, who achieved an inspiring weight loss of 25 kilograms. These success stories not only showcase individual triumphs but also the collective motivation behind this initiative.
This year’s challenge witnessed unprecedented participation, attracting 24,289 participants from across the UAE, making it the most successful edition to date. Ras Al Khaimah accounted for nearly half (49%) of the total participation, showcasing the emirate’s commitment to health and wellness. The initiative included an almost equal gender ratio, engaging 54% male and 46% female participants from diverse backgrounds, including individuals, families, corporate teams, and school communities. This inclusivity highlights the aim of the challenge: to foster a nationwide movement towards healthier living.
Participants who successfully completed the 12-week programme recorded an impressive average weight loss of 8.8 kilograms, with many experiencing transformative changes in their lives. The challenge offered varied formats, including physical and virtual categories, as well as competitions for corporate teams and school staff. This diversity ensured that everyone, regardless of their background, could participate and strive for their health goals.
A notable addition to this year’s challenge was the introduction of a family category, encouraging husband-and-wife teams to join in the journey towards better health. Over 100 couples participated, fostering a sense of camaraderie and mutual support. Participants were motivated by the opportunity to win exciting prizes, including cash rewards, healthy monthly meal packages, luxury staycations, gym memberships, executive health check-ups, and wellness packages.
In the Male Physical Category, the top three winners were Amrith Raj, who took first place with his remarkable 45.7 kg loss and a prize of Dhs13,800; Muhammad Nadeem Saleem Khan from Ajman, who ranked second with a 38 kg loss and received Dhs7,600; and Zubair Chaudhry from Dubai, securing third place with a loss of 34.6 kg, awarded Dhs3,400.
Reflecting on his transformative journey, Amrith Raj expressed, “Joining the RAK Biggest Weight Loss Challenge was a turning point in my life. I began my journey the very next day after registering, and over three months, I lost more than 45 kilogrammes through sheer discipline and determination.” He described the initial difficulties he faced, explaining that even basic tasks felt exhausting due to his weight. Through a strict diet, he eliminated sugar and carbs while committing to daily evening walks, gradually noticing significant changes in his health.
Today, Amrith feels lighter, more energetic, and no longer suffers from shortness of breath during simple activities, marking a significant improvement in his quality of life. “This transformation has been truly life-changing. The challenge gave me the motivation I needed to take control of my health. With the support of a coach, I now plan to maintain and build on this progress,” he added, emphasising the lasting impact of this initiative on his life and health.
