Dubai Police Draws Over 15,000 Participants for Eid Labour Championships

Date:

The Eid Labour Championships, organized by the Dubai Police’s Positive Spirit Council, shone a spotlight on community spirit and camaraderie during the first two days of Eid Al-Adha. This vibrant event successfully attracted over 15,000 attendees and participants, taking place at four strategic locations across Dubai: Al Muhaisnah, Al Quoz, Al Satwa, and the Jebel Ali labour accommodations known as Nuzul. The championships not only provided a platform for athletic competition but also fostered a sense of unity among diverse cultures and communities.

Collaboration was key to the success of the championships. The event was made possible through partnerships with essential organizations including the Dubai Event Security Committee, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Sports Council, and Dubai Municipality, among others. This cooperative effort ensured smooth operations and a fun-filled atmosphere, demonstrating the commitment of various sectors to promote community engagement during the festive celebration.

Among the most exciting activities were the sports tournaments, which highlighted both athletic talent and teamwork. The basketball tournament featured 114 skilled players competing in 14 teams, showcasing not only competitive spirits but also thrilling displays of skill and passion. Simultaneously, the women’s volleyball tournament had 112 female athletes forming 14 teams, further emphasizing the importance of female participation in sports and community events.

The men’s volleyball tournament was no less impressive, with 96 players competing zealously in 12 teams. Adding to the festive atmosphere, the tug-of-war competition enlisted participation from 648 individuals across 84 teams, turning spectators into enthusiastic supporters as teams went head-to-head in this age-old contest of strength. A special basketball tournament for the Pakistani community also highlighted cultural diversity, with 80 players involved in eight teams, reinforcing the event’s ethos of inclusivity.

Education and empowerment went hand in hand with sports during the championships. Mohammed Al-Hajjaji, a Sign Language Expert and Secretary of the People of Determination Empowerment Council at Dubai Police, conducted workshops on sign language and communication techniques for the deaf community. By incorporating these workshops, the event emphasized the importance of accessibility and the value of empowering all community members to participate fully.

Fatima Buhajeer, Chairperson of the Positive Spirit Council, expressed her enthusiasm for this year’s championships, emphasizing the theme “Celebrating Eid Together.” Buhajeer noted the strong participation from workers and target groups, highlighting how these activities play a pivotal role in spreading joy during Eid. She articulated that the various sporting events were designed not only to entertain but also to promote health and psychological well-being among laborers, facilitating social connections and reinforcing values of tolerance and coexistence in diverse communities.

Moreover, Buhajeer pointed out that the Eid Labour Championships align perfectly with the strategic goals of the Dubai Police, aiming to enhance safety and security while encouraging community engagement across all societal segments. The event reflected the dedication of Dubai Police to foster a sense of belonging and community, showcasing their commitment to the welfare of all residents and workers in Dubai.
