The **Eid Labour Championships**, a vibrant and uplifting event, recently organized by the **Dubai Police’s Positive Spirit Council**, attracted an impressive turnout during the first two days of Eid Al-Adha. More than **15,000 attendees and participants** gathered at four prime locations across Dubai: **Al Muhaisnah**, **Al Quoz**, **Al Satwa**, and the **Jebel Ali labour accommodations—Nuzul**. This gathering reflects the community spirit and enthusiasm that defines Dubai’s multicultural society.
This year’s championships were made possible through a collaborative effort with a variety of esteemed organizations, including the **Dubai Event Security Committee**, the **Roads and Transport Authority**, the **Dubai Sports Council**, **Dubai Municipality**, and the **Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services**. Additionally, the **Dubai Police Station Directors’ Council**, the Community Police Section at the Crime Prevention Department, and the **People of Determination Empowerment Council** at **Dubai Police** played vital roles in ensuring the event’s success, alongside the innovative ‘On-the-Go’ initiative.
The sports activities showcased an exhilarating mix of competitive events that brought participants together in a celebration of community and teamwork. The basketball tournament featured **114 players** competing across **14 teams**, while the women’s volleyball tournament saw **112 fierce competitors** participating across another **14 teams**. The men’s volleyball competition was equally competitive, boasting **96 players** across **12 teams**. Each of these tournaments fostered a spirit of camaraderie and friendly rivalry among the participants.
A standout event was the **tug-of-war competition**, which drew substantial audience interaction with **648 enthusiastic players** divided into **84 teams**. The excitement extended further with a special basketball tournament tailored for the Pakistani community, engaging **80 players** in spirited competition across **eight teams**. Such events not only showcased athletic prowess but also deepened cultural connections within the diverse community of Dubai.
In a meaningful addition to the festivities, **Sign Language Expert Mohammed Al-Hajjaji**, who serves as the Secretary of the **People of Determination Empowerment Council at Dubai Police**, conducted educational workshops on sign language and communication techniques designed specifically for the deaf community. This initiative underscored the event’s commitment to inclusivity and the empowerment of all community members, highlighting the importance of accessibility in sports and social gatherings.
Reflecting on the event, **Fatima Buhajeer**, Chairperson of the **Positive Spirit Council**, emphasized the theme of this year’s championships: **”Celebrating Eid Together.”** She noted the strong and positive participation from workers and target groups, which played a crucial role in spreading joy during the festive atmosphere of Eid. This statement encapsulated the essence of the championships—bringing people together and fostering a sense of belonging.
Buhajeer further articulated that the various sports activities aimed to enhance happiness among laborers, providing them with numerous health and psychological benefits. By promoting physical activity, the championships also reinforced social connections and advocated for values such as tolerance and coexistence among Dubai’s diverse population. Moreover, she highlighted that the **Eid Labour Championships** align with the strategic goals of **Dubai Police** to enhance safety and security, while fostering community engagement across all societal segments. This alignment showcases the broader role of Dubai Police in nurturing a cohesive community.
