Dubai Police Draws More than 15,000 Participants for Eid Labour Championships

The Eid Labour Championships, organized by the Dubai Police’s Positive Spirit Council, have become a celebrated event in the heart of Dubai, particularly during the festive occasion of Eid Al-Adha. This year, the championships garnered significant attention, with over 15,000 attendees and participants flocking to four vibrant locations across the city: Al Muhaisnah, Al Quoz, Al Satwa, and the Jebel Ali labour accommodations—Nuzul. The turnout was not just impressive; it underscored the sense of community and camaraderie that these championships foster among labourers and their families.

The event was a collaborative effort, bringing together numerous key organizations dedicated to promoting social engagement and support. Among these were the Dubai Event Security Committee, the Roads and Transport Authority, the Dubai Sports Council, and Dubai Municipality. The Dubai Corporation For Ambulance Services, alongside the Dubai Police Station Directors’ Council and other community-focused entities, played pivotal roles in ensuring the event’s success. The involvement of the People of Determination Empowerment Council at Dubai Police and the ‘On-the-Go’ initiative highlighted a commitment to inclusion and empowerment within the community.

Sports were at the forefront of the championships, showcasing a range of competitions that catered to both men and women. The basketball tournament featured an impressive 114 players divided into 14 teams, while the women’s volleyball tournament saw 112 women competing across 14 teams. Additionally, the men’s volleyball tournament attracted 96 players from 12 teams, all vying for glory and community pride. Each event acted as a platform for connection, healthy competition, and mutual support among the participants.

The tug-of-war competition also made its mark, drawing enthusiastic participation with 648 players representing 84 teams. This event represented not only a test of strength but also a celebration of teamwork and unity among the participants. Adding to the festive spirit, a special basketball tournament specifically for the Pakistani community showcased 80 players across eight teams, highlighting the multicultural richness of Dubai.

In parallel with the sports events, educational initiatives took center stage as well. Sign Language Expert Mohammed Al-Hajjaji, Secretary of the People of Determination Empowerment Council at Dubai Police, hosted workshops that provided valuable insights into sign language and effective communication techniques for the deaf community. This initiative emphasized the importance of inclusivity and ensured that everyone had a chance to participate in and benefit from the festivities.

Fatima Buhajeer, Chairperson of the Positive Spirit Council, expressed her pride in the event’s achievements. She noted that this year’s championships, held under the unifying theme “Celebrating Eid Together,” witnessed a vibrant and positive participation from workers and target groups alike. Buhajeer highlighted the integral role that such activities play in spreading joy and fostering an atmosphere of celebration during Eid. She underscored that the various sports activities were designed not only to bring happiness to labourers but also to yield significant health and psychological benefits.

Moreover, these championships promoted social connections among participants, reinforcing values of tolerance and coexistence within Dubai’s diverse community. The initiative aligns with Dubai Police’s strategic goals aimed at enhancing safety and security, fostering community engagement across all societal segments, and reflecting the crucial role that Dubai Police play in supporting community initiatives.
