Dubai-Korea Roundtable Discussion: Bridging Opportunities Between Markets
Dubai Chambers has once again positioned itself as a facilitator of international business cooperation by successfully hosting the ‘Dubai–Korea Roundtable Discussion.’ This significant event welcomed a delegation from 25 Korean companies, all keen to explore the myriad opportunities that Dubai’s thriving business ecosystem has to offer.
Collaboration with KITA and UAE Embassy
The roundtable was organized in collaboration with the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) and the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Seoul, reflecting a unified effort to strengthen economic ties between the two regions. By bringing together key stakeholders, the event aimed to demonstrate how businesses can leverage Dubai’s strategic advantages across various sectors, particularly those that align with the ambitions of Korean enterprises.
A Diverse Attendee Profile
The gathering attracted approximately 60 participants, including representatives from 14 Dubai-based organizations and companies. This diverse turnout underscores the broad spectrum of opportunities for collaboration. Industries represented included agritech, artificial intelligence, fintech, and advanced technology, as well as more traditional sectors like mobility solutions, energy, construction, and infrastructure. This variety highlights Dubai’s capability to be a meeting point for innovative, future-facing industries and established business sectors alike.
Strategic Agreement: Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
A key moment during the roundtable was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Dubai Chambers and KITA. This agreement, signed by Saeed Al Gergawi, Vice President of the Dubai Chamber of Digital Economy, and Gi-Hyun Kim, Vice President of KITA, symbolizes a commitment to deepening cooperation between the two business communities.
The MoU aims to enhance private-sector investment opportunities through several avenues: the exchange of vital information on economic developments, the establishment of effective communication channels between companies, and coordinated participation in exhibitions, forums, and seminars. By prioritizing these collaborative efforts, both parties aspire to advance their mutual economic interests.
Insights from Saeed Al Gergawi
Highlighting the immense potential for Korean enterprises, Saeed Al Gergawi expressed confidence that Dubai is an attractive market for companies of all sizes, including startups. He emphasized that the emirate offers robust growth opportunities, particularly in advanced technology sectors.
Expand North Star 2025: A Gateway for Startups
A pivotal part of the conversation at the roundtable included a mention of Expand North Star 2025, recognized as the world’s largest event tailored for startups and investors. Scheduled for October 12–15 at Dubai Harbour, this event is poised to be a significant venue for Korean companies interested in establishing new partnerships and securing venture capital.
Al Gergawi noted last year’s impressive turnout: 152 companies from the Republic of Korea participated, reflecting a remarkable 111% increase compared to the 72 startups that engaged in 2023. Such participation illustrates a growing interest and belief in Dubai as a launchpad for innovative ideas and ventures.
Conclusion
The Dubai–Korea Roundtable Discussion not only showcased the potential for collaboration between these regions but also reiterated Dubai’s commitment to fostering a conducive business environment. With initiatives like the MoU with KITA and the upcoming Expand North Star event, the momentum for deeper economic integration continues to build, paving the way for successful cross-border partnerships.
