Dubai Basketball Concludes Historic Inaugural Season After Elimination in Belgrade – ARN News Centre

Despite taking an early lead, Dubai Basketball suffered a 114-97 defeat in the third and final game of the semi-finals at Belgrade Arena against Serbian powerhouse Partizan.

In a gripping semi-final showdown, Dubai Basketball showcased their skills and tenacity against the seven-time ABA League champions, Partizan, in Belgrade Arena. The match kicked off with a dazzling display of sharpshooting from Dubai’s Davis Bertans, Klemen Prepelić, and Nate Mason, each contributing three-pointers in the opening minutes. This explosive start allowed Dubai to gain an early advantage, ending the first quarter with a nine-point lead that hinted at an upset against their formidable opponents.

However, as the game transitioned into the second quarter, the dynamics began to shift. The partisan crowd rallied behind Partizan, energizing the players to tighten their defense and mount a comeback. By the end of the third quarter, the gap had narrowed significantly, with Dubai’s lead reduced to just a solitary point. This shift in momentum was palpable, as Partizan gradually took control of the game.

Entering the third and fourth quarters, the intensity escalated further. Partizan’s storied history as a basketball powerhouse began to shine through, as they systematically dismantled Dubai’s defense. Despite this, Dubai remained resilient, repeatedly clawing back to equalize, effectively keeping the spectators on the edge of their seats. The underdog’s relentless spirit made it clear that they were not going down without a fight, igniting a fierce competitive energy in the arena.

As the final quarter unfolded, Partizan unleashed a scoring barrage, netting 28 points and cementing their lead. By the match’s conclusion, Dubai faced a disappointing yet commendable defeat of 114-97. Nevertheless, they exited the court with immense pride, having pushed one of Europe’s elite teams to their limits. Head coach Jurica Golemac reflected on the intense battle, emphasizing the team’s growth and spirit throughout the season.

In an interview post-game, Golemac noted, “Throughout the season, we played good basketball. We claimed major wins—including victories over some of the league’s giants—and today, we pushed Partizan into a serious battle for a place in the finals.” His remarks underscored the tremendous strides made by Dubai Basketball this season, marking it as a historic journey for the fledgling team representing Dubai.

Dubai Basketball’s inaugural season in the Adriatic League began with high expectations and culminated in significant achievements. The team competes at the highest level, facing off against some of Europe’s most decorated teams. From their memorable opening game victory over reigning champions Red Star to being one of the few teams to secure wins against Partizan on their home turf, the 2024/25 season was filled with remarkable milestones that have carved a niche for them in the competitive landscape of European basketball.

Coach Golemac expressed satisfaction over the team’s performance, particularly with the integration of 13 new players in their roster. “We were fortunate to have selected not only top-quality athletes but also exceptional people who made this journey smoother,” he said. His focus on teamwork and player development highlights the foundational steps being taken to ensure long-term success.

Looking ahead, Golemac emphasized that planning for the future is already in motion. “As they say, the off-season begins tomorrow, and so does our preparation for what comes next.” His forward-thinking attitude indicates an ambitious outlook for the club as they seek to build on their inaugural season and solidify their presence in the basketball domain.

The debut of Dubai Basketball has not only paved the way for a promising future but has also underscored the potential for the sport to flourish in the Middle East. The team’s journey has undoubtedly generated momentum toward establishing a basketball legacy in the region, inspiring interest and participation in the sport like never before.
