Dubai’s Growing Dominance in International Business Events

A Flourishing Destination for Global Gatherings

In 2025, Dubai solidified its status as a premier destination for international business events, successfully securing the hosting rights for an impressive 504 global conferences and meetings over the next four years. This achievement, orchestrated by Dubai Business Events (DBE), the city’s official convention bureau, marks a noteworthy 15% increase in successful bids year-on-year. Such growth highlights Dubai’s strategic alignment with long-term economic goals, reinforcing its position as a world-class hub for business gatherings.

Surge in Delegate Attendance

The events lined up for 2025 are set to draw approximately 272,262 delegates to Dubai by 2029, signifying a substantial 29% rise compared to the 209,545 attendees confirmed in 2024. This influx of delegates will have a measurable impact on Dubai’s meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) sectors, which play a crucial role in the city’s broader travel and tourism framework. Beyond the numbers, these events will introduce international expertise, encourage talent exchange, and present new investment opportunities, positioning Dubai as an epicenter of innovation and cross-sector cooperation.

Record-Breaking Event Hosting

In 2025, Dubai hosted 481 business events backed by DBE, up from 429 the previous year—a growth of 9%. This increase reflects successful DBE-led bidding efforts, showcasing the robustness and variety of Dubai’s events calendar. The city also submitted 747 bids in 2025, marking an 11% rise from 669 in 2024, a sign of growing confidence among event planners and organizers.

Collaborative Efforts Drive Success

Dubai’s sustained success in the international business event sector is a testament to its appealing destination proposition. A concerted effort from both public and private sectors has enabled the city to capture a share of global business events confidently. This proactive strategy underscores Dubai’s strengths, including its accessibility, safety, world-class infrastructure, and extensive experience in orchestrating large-scale international gatherings. Moreover, the role of business events is increasingly significant within the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, aimed at solidifying the city’s international prominence in both business and leisure sectors.

Leadership Perspectives

Ahmed Al Khaja, CEO of Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, emphasized, “Guided by our leadership’s vision, business events are essential for boosting Dubai’s economic growth and knowledge landscape. The impressive performance in 2025 reflects both the confidence of international associations and corporate planners in Dubai’s capabilities to deliver excellence and impact.”

Looking ahead, Al Khaja noted, “As we approach 2026, our focus remains on enhancing collaboration with our partners to elevate Dubai’s standing in the global business events sector, aligning with the aspirations of the D33 agenda.”

Major Future Events on the Horizon

Several significant congresses have already been secured for the coming years, such as the World Engineers Congress 2027, expected to attract 3,000 delegates, and the World Ophthalmology Congress 2028, which anticipates hosting 12,000 attendees. The city has also successfully secured other sizable events, including the SIBOS 2029 conference, bringing together 12,000 participants, further reflecting its appeal to high-value knowledge sectors.

In addition, Dubai has solidified its reputation in the corporate and incentive markets by winning major programs like The Africa Energy Forum 2026 (2,000 delegates) and UNLEASH Middle East 2026 (2,000 delegates). This storytelling of significant achievements showcases Dubai’s ability to host complex, large-scale global events, fostering both economic and reputational benefits.

Active International Engagement

To maintain its momentum, DBE implemented a robust international engagement strategy throughout 2025. The bureau participated in major trade shows such as IMEX Frankfurt and America, and IBTM Barcelona. Alongside year-round sales missions targeting key markets, these initiatives ensured that Dubai remained a top contender for international event organizers across various sectors.

DBE also invested in strategic initiatives like the Al Safeer Congress Ambassador Programme, mobilizing UAE-based experts to attract international congresses in their respective fields. Partnerships with leading industry players such as BestCities Global Alliance and ICCA bolstered Dubai’s connectivity within the global business events ecosystem.

Recognition and Competitive Edge

Dubai’s achievements have not gone unnoticed, earning recognition in global benchmarks. The city ranked first worldwide for average attendance at association meetings and in the Middle East and Africa for meetings hosted by organizations such as the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) and Cvent. Its standing improved further, reaching fourth place in the IMD Smart City Index 2025. Enhanced air connectivity is also a highlight, with Dubai International Airport recording its busiest half-year in early 2025, fortifying the allure of the city as a host for international business events.

As Dubai transitions into 2026, it remains well-positioned to continue driving economic growth, visibility, and knowledge development through a forward-looking business events strategy, paving the way for sustained success in the years to come.
