DEWA Collaborates with Several Organisations to Expand EV Fast Charging Network
The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is making significant strides in enhancing the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across Dubai. This initiative is part of the EV Green Charger program, which was launched back in 2014. Recently, DEWA has signed agreements with key partners, including the Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC), Dubai Taxi Company, and Parkin, to expand the EV charging network throughout the emirate.
This collaborative effort aims to create a robust and integrated infrastructure for charging electric vehicles, thereby supporting Dubai’s ambitious sustainability goals. As HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, stated, “In collaboration with our partners from the government and private sectors, we are enhancing Dubai’s green mobility journey. This contributes to reducing carbon emissions and achieving the goals of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, and the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy.”
ENOC Partnership
One of the pivotal agreements is with the Enoc Group, which focuses on expanding the EV fast-charging network at ENOC service stations across Dubai. This initiative is designed to meet the growing demand for electric vehicles, ensuring that residents and visitors have convenient access to charging facilities. By integrating EV charging stations into existing fuel service locations, DEWA is making it easier for drivers to transition to electric vehicles.
Dubai Taxi Company Collaboration
In another significant move, DEWA has entered into a long-term strategic contract with the Dubai Taxi Company (DTC). This partnership aims to deploy ultra-fast charging stations specifically for DTC’s fleet of electric vehicles. Over the duration of this contract, 208 ultra-fast EV charge points will be installed, aligning with DTC’s roadmap for fleet transformation and supporting Dubai’s broader sustainability vision.
Transforming Public Charging with Parkin
DEWA’s collaboration with Parkin Company marks another important step in enhancing Dubai’s public EV charging network. This strategic contract will initiate the installation of 100 EV chargers in key locations across the city, including residential communities, shopping malls, leisure destinations, and public areas. This first phase is just the beginning; a broader rollout is planned to cover additional areas, providing greater flexibility and accessibility for EV users.
Through its EV Green Charger initiative, DEWA has already established over 1,500 charging points across Dubai, in partnership with various public and private sector entities. This extensive network not only facilitates the growing number of electric vehicles on the roads but also plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable transportation options in the emirate.
As Dubai continues to position itself as a leader in green mobility, these collaborations are essential for building a sustainable future. The expansion of the EV charging network is a testament to the commitment of DEWA and its partners to foster an eco-friendly environment while enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
