Dabrowski and Stefani Claim Victory at Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships

The reunion of Gabriela Dabrowski and Luisa Stefani has proven to be a winning collaboration, culminating in an impressive victory at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. This fifth-seeded duo, back together for the 2026 WTA Tour Driven by Mercedes-Benz season, triumphed over Laura Siegemund and Vera Zvonareva with a decisive score of 6-1, 6-3 in Saturday’s final. This marks their second WTA 1000 title together and their first trophy as a pair after four years apart.

A Journey Through Triumph and Setbacks

Dabrowski and Stefani’s partnership, which alternated from 2020 to 2023, has seen them reach five finals and secure two titles, including a significant WTA 1000 win in Montreal in 2021. Unfortunately, their consistent collaboration faced challenges when Stefani sustained a serious knee injury at the 2021 US Open. Despite this setback, they managed to clinch the WTA 250 title in Chennai in 2022 and teamed up once more for the Sunshine Double in Indian Wells and Miami in 2023. Following the dissolution of their respective partnerships with Timea Babos and Erin Routliffe in 2025, the two talented players found their way back to each other, ultimately achieving success in Dubai after recent semifinal losses at the Australian Open and Qatar Total Open in Doha.

A Hard-Fought Victory

Dabrowski’s victory celebration was particularly poignant; she dedicated the win to her best friend’s father, who is currently battling cancer. Their journey to the final wasn’t without its hurdles. Three of their four matches leading up to the finale involved match tiebreaks, and they notably saved three match points in their quarterfinal clash against Giuliana Olmos and Jessica Pegula. The semifinals saw them rebound against Anna Danilina and Aleksandra Krunic, reversing their earlier season defeats with a hard-fought win.

In the final against Siegemund and Zvonareva, Dabrowski and Stefani quickly asserted themselves. Although they started the match down 1-0, they saved two break points in their opening service game. This resilience allowed them to seize control, winning nine of the following ten games and establishing a commanding 6-1, 4-1 lead. Despite a late push from their opponents, which included a break point opportunity, Dabrowski held her serve, keeping the momentum firmly in their favor.

Celebrating the Moment

After the match, Stefani expressed her elation over securing their first title in Dubai. “A WTA 1000 title isn’t something you earn every week,” she noted, beaming with pride for their accomplishment. She also acknowledged their teamwork, highlighting how focused they were from the outset. “We know they’re a team that makes you play, and we had to come up with some good shots,” she reflected. Stefani praised Dabrowski’s strategic patience, noting her ability to set up points effectively.

Looking Ahead

This victory adds yet another significant title to Dabrowski’s career, marking her sixth at the WTA 1000 level, while also representing Stefani’s fourth. Following this win, Dabrowski is set to reach a new career-high ranking of World No. 2 in the PIF WTA Rankings. Meanwhile, Siegemund and Zvonareva were competing in their first final together since their WTA Finals victory in 2023.

In the aftermath, Dabrowski acknowledged the pressures of rankings but emphasized the importance of their partnership and consistent tournament performance. “Rankings come and go,” she stated, focusing on their ongoing collaboration. “I’m more interested in just having a great partnership and going deep in tournaments consistently.” This win serves as a testament to their resilience and dedication, paving the way for more successes in the future.
