Dubai Chamber of Commerce Launches ‘Sustainability 365’ Initiative

This October, from the 6th to the 30th, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce is set to launch its ambitious ‘Sustainability 365’ initiative. This initiative aims to enhance the role of responsible business practices, fostering positive change within business communities across Dubai. Echoing the chamber’s commitment to integrating sustainability as a fundamental aspect of corporate culture, this initiative not only acknowledges past successes but expands them for future growth.

Maha Al Gargawi, the Vice President of Business Advocacy at Dubai Chambers, emphasized the initiative’s foundation in social responsibility. “The launch of the ‘Sustainability 365’ initiative reflects a firm conviction that social responsibility is an integral part of business culture and a driver of positive change,” she stated. This perspective reiterates the chamber’s belief that companies play a crucial role in advancing sustainable practices across all sectors.

Historically, the ‘Sustainability 365’ initiative evolves from the well-received ‘Sustainability Week,’ which was inaugurated in 2015 through the Centre for Responsible Business. With the launch this year, the initiative marks a decade of commitment to sustainability, showcasing how the chamber wants these practices to be a continual, year-round priority rather than a one-off event.

This year’s theme, ‘Purpose in Action: Empowering Communities Through Responsible Business,’ encapsulates the essence of the initiative. It underlines the crucial role of the private sector in advancing sustainable development, urging businesses to adopt and promote environmentally and socially responsible practices. The expanded agenda comprises a robust array of events aimed at enhancing private sector engagement in sustainable economic development.

Significantly, the month-long agenda includes various training sessions and workshops designed to provide companies with actionable tools and invaluable knowledge for integrating sustainability into their operational strategies. This holistic approach aims to create a sustainable business landscape that benefits both the economy and the wider community.

The evolution of this initiative marks a key advancement in the chamber’s ongoing efforts to promote the adoption of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards by businesses throughout Dubai. By transitioning from a one-week event to a month-long series, the initiative aspires to deepen the private sector’s contributions to achieving sustainable development goals.

Over the past decade, the annual Sustainability Week has allowed engagement with more than 720 companies, fostering dialogues about critical issues spanning health, diversity, stakeholder engagement, and the impacts of technological advances like artificial intelligence. This evolution in themes highlights the chamber’s dedication to continuously addressing the pressing challenges that businesses face today.

The first event of the ‘Sustainability 365’ initiative will be The Purpose Forum, which gathers senior leaders and CEOs to discuss the impactful role of purposeful business in catalyzing social change. Following this, the Business with Purpose Roundtable will engage participants in an interactive simulation, exploring the multifaceted challenges and opportunities confronted by purpose-driven organizations.

A standout feature of the month will be the Global Sustainability and CSR Forum 2025, which will converge industry experts and stakeholders to shed light on emerging trends and best practices in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability. Coupled with the Purpose Academy, which offers expert-led online sessions throughout the month, participants will have numerous opportunities to enhance their understanding and application of sustainability principles.

Since its establishment, the Centre for Responsible Business within the Dubai Chamber of Commerce has played a pivotal role in steering companies towards responsible and sustainable practices. It continues to offer extensive support and resources for businesses eager to adopt ESG principles, ultimately enhancing performance, competitiveness, and social impact. By fostering an environment enriched with tools, knowledge, and platforms, the chamber solidifies its commitment to embedding governance, sustainability, and social responsibility in business operations.
