British Airways Extends Flight Reductions Amid Ongoing Middle East Instability
British Airways has announced an extension of its temporary flight reductions in the Middle East due to ongoing instability and airspace concerns. The airline aims to provide clarity to its customers as the situation continues to evolve.
Ongoing Review of Flight Schedule
As of March 16, 2026, British Airways has confirmed it is closely monitoring the situation in the Middle East. The airline is in direct communication with affected customers to offer various travel options. Since the onset of the crisis, British Airways has facilitated the return of thousands of customers, operating eight relief flights from Muscat, Oman. Additionally, the airline has scheduled extra flights to and from Singapore and Bangkok to assist further.
Additional Flights to Support Customers
On March 13, 2026, British Airways announced the addition of flights between London, Singapore, and Bangkok for the following week. Customers can book these flights through the airline’s website or by contacting their original airline. The airline continues to review its schedule and provide options for those impacted by the disruptions.
Temporary Reductions in Flight Operations
Due to the ongoing uncertainty in the Middle East, British Airways temporarily reduced its flight schedule on March 12, 2026. The airline has been in contact with customers to offer them various options. Since the situation began, the airline has paused its relief flights from Muscat but is committed to reviewing the situation continuously.
Cancellation of Flights to Specific Destinations
On March 10, 2026, British Airways announced the cancellation of all flights to and from Amman, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, and Tel Aviv until later this month, and to Abu Dhabi until later this year. The airline has limited seats available on repatriation flights from Muscat to London Heathrow on March 11 and 12 for customers with existing bookings. After these dates, flights will pause due to reduced demand.
Scheduled Flights from Muscat
On March 6, 2026, British Airways confirmed it remains unable to operate flights from Abu Dhabi, Amman, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, and Tel Aviv. However, the airline has scheduled further flights from Muscat to London Heathrow, departing at 02:30 local time on March 9, 10, 11, and 12. These flights are exclusively for British Airways customers currently in Oman or the UAE with existing bookings. Customers wishing to travel on these flights can reach out via a dedicated phone line.
Government Travel Advice
The UK Government has updated its travel advice, indicating that commercial options are available for those wishing to leave the region. It advises individuals whose presence in the UAE is not essential to consider departing if they can access these options safely.
Travel Policy Adjustments
British Airways has implemented flexible travel policies for customers affected by the ongoing situation. As of March 3, 2026, passengers scheduled to fly between London Heathrow and destinations including Abu Dhabi, Amman, Bahrain, Doha, Dubai, or Tel Aviv up to and including March 15 can change their flight dates free of charge to travel on or before March 29.
