Excitement Builds for Dubai International Baja

The countdown is on for the Dubai International Baja, scheduled from November 20-23, 2025. This year’s event features competitors from over 30 nations, including a strong contingent of 14 participants from the UAE, bringing a competitive entry list of 94 vehicles.

A Competitive Field of Talent

Front and center in the car and bike categories are Juan Cruz Yacopini, the current World Cup leader, and local favorite Mohammed Al Balooshi. Both are set to navigate the challenging terrains of the Al Qudra desert and the scenic landscapes of Hatta. As the FIA and FIM World Cup seasons reach a thrilling climax, numerous titles are still up for grabs, making this event critical for both seasoned racers and newcomers.

Mohammed Al Balooshi’s Quest for Glory

One name to watch in the motorcycle category is Mohammed Al Balooshi, who is vying for his fourth FIM Bajas World Cup title aboard his Yamaha YZF 450. A two-time winner of this event in 2018 and 2023, he faced tough competition last year from Poland’s Konrad Dabrowski. This past November, during the Qatar round, he made significant progress but ultimately fell short of victory against Dabrowski, who demonstrated impressive skill.

Quad Competitors Aim for the Top

In the quads category, Abdulaziz Ahli is determined to secure a hat-trick of wins at this prestigious local event. Riding his Yamaha Raptor 700, he has taken first place at both the 2023 and 2024 editions of the Dubai International Baja, and he’s looking to maintain his winning streak.

Innovations and New Entries

The Dubai International Baja is becoming known as a crucial testing ground for both machinery and crews. This year marks the debut of the Defender machines, which will compete in the upcoming World Cup rally-raid season in 2026. The legendary Stephane Peterhansel, a 14-time Dakar Rally champion, will team up with Michael Metge in one of the Defenders, while Rokas Baciuska will partner with Oriol Vidal Montijano in a second entry. These vehicles are expected to draw significant attention from fans at various viewing areas around the event.

Free Entry for Spectators

Entry for spectators is free at the Service Area, Hatta, and Al Marmoom locations, promising to make this edition one of the most attended in the event’s history. This accessibility is a key part of what continues to attract fans and competitors alike to the Dubai International Baja, making it one of the premier events in the World Baja Cup circuit.

Support from Local Officials

Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council, expressed pride in the ongoing partnership with the Emirates Motorsports Organisation (EMSO). He highlighted the event’s significance in showcasing Dubai’s natural beauty and sporting prowess, reinforcing the Emirate’s status as a global sports hub. According to Hareb, the event symbolizes not just endurance but also courage and commitment—qualities that reflect the spirit of Dubai.

Khalid Ben Sulayem, President of EMSO, echoed this sentiment, noting how the Dubai International Baja continues to draw an impressive roster of talent. The challenging stages and the event’s urban proximity create a unique atmosphere that’s highly appealing to both competitors and spectators.

Leading the Car Contingent

At the forefront of the car entries is Juan Cruz Yacopini from Argentina, a four-time winner in the 2025 FIA World Baja Cup. Co-driven by Dani Oliveras, Yacopini will pilot an SVR run Toyota Hilux. Following a successful round in Qatar, he is eager to secure his first victory in the Dubai International Baja, having placed third in the event two years ago.

Czech Republic’s Martin Prokop and his co-driver Victor Chytka are also returning to compete in their Orlen Jipocar Ford Maverick after a strong showing in Qatar. Additionally, Saudi Arabia’s Dania Akeel is making her mark with her French co-driver Sebastian Delaunay in an Overdrive Racing Toyota Hilux, looking to improve on previous performances.

Notable Contenders in the Mix

Other notable participants include the Dutch duo of Mitchel Van Den Brink and Bart Van Heun, who are returning to Dubai with high hopes for their South Racing BRP Maverick R after achieving two wins in the 2025 World Baja Cup. Additionally, American racers Seth Quintero and Andrew Shorts will also be in the mix, seeking a stronger finish than last year’s 16th place.

Event Organization and Support

The Dubai International Baja is held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. The event is expertly organized by the Emirates Motorsport Organisation, with support from various Dubai government entities, including the Dubai Police, RTA, and Dubai Municipality. The Official Automotive Partner, Al-Futtaim Toyota, also plays a crucial role in the event’s success.

As anticipation builds, both competitors and fans are gearing up for what promises to be an exhilarating and memorable event at the Dubai International Baja.
