Aspire Academy recently hosted a University Fair, attracting representatives from over 30 universities across Qatar to showcase educational opportunities for student-athletes. This event, which included senior student-athletes, parents, graduates, and teachers, underscores Aspire Academy’s commitment to providing diverse pathways for its graduates beyond sports.
Among the attendees was Bassem Hemeida, a 2019 graduate who recently earned gold and silver medals in athletics at the Asian Games in Japan. Hemeida emphasized the importance of balancing education with athletics, stating, “One of the key things that I learnt at Aspire Academy is that my education is as important as my athletics career.” He shared his journey of studying in the USA while continuing his athletic development, highlighting the need to effectively combine both aspects moving forward.
Empowering Future Leaders
Mohamed Ouda, a 2022 squash graduate and now Senior Admission and Enrollment Officer for Arkansas State University, Qatar, also spoke at the fair. He noted that Aspire Academy prepares its alumni for future challenges by emphasizing the importance of education alongside sports. “People think Aspire Academy only focuses on sports, but they offer so much more and stress the need to balance education and sport,” Ouda explained. He encouraged current student-athletes to pursue both their studies and sports, advising them to keep striving for excellence.
Parents also expressed their appreciation for the opportunities available at Aspire Academy. Ghaith Meknassi, whose son Rayen is a padel player set to graduate in 2027, remarked on the importance of aligning sports with academic development. “The education at Aspire is good; for my son and for me, it’s good that he can align the sport with his academic development,” he said, emphasizing the psychological benefits of maintaining a balance between the two.
Future Aspirations
Grade 12 footballer Shaher Roustom articulated the significance of such fairs in exploring future options. “I need to see what options there are after I graduate and to see where my future can go,” he stated. Roustom acknowledged the challenges of balancing sports and education but expressed confidence that with determination and support from Aspire Academy, success is achievable.
The University Fair not only provided a platform for student-athletes to explore their future but also reinforced Aspire Academy’s role in shaping well-rounded individuals prepared for life beyond sports. As the event concluded, the emphasis on education and personal development resonated with all attendees, highlighting the academy’s commitment to nurturing future leaders in both athletics and academics.
