An Important Initiative

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who serves as the Chairman of the Dubai Health Board of Directors, recently unveiled ‘The Cancer Fund,’ a new initiative from the Al Jalila Foundation. This philanthropic arm of Dubai Health aims to provide essential financial assistance to individuals undergoing cancer treatment. The launch took place during a special ceremony held at Dubai Hospital, with His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice Chairman of the Dubai Health Board, also in attendance.

Acknowledging Generosity

During the event, Sheikh Ahmed also introduced ‘The Giving Wall,’ located at Dubai Hospital. This wall honors the generosity of donors by displaying their names, showcasing their support for the hospital’s treatment programs. Such gestures not only highlight community spirit but also the vital role of donors in enhancing healthcare facilities.

Alleviating Financial Stress

The primary goal of The Cancer Fund is to alleviate the financial pressure on cancer patients. By ensuring that patients have access to necessary treatments, the Fund aims to help individuals focus on their recovery without overwhelming concerns about the costs involved. This initiative is a timely response to the growing need for financial backing for healthcare in the region.

Ceremony Highlights

The launch event attracted notable figures in the healthcare sector and government officials, including His Excellency Mohammed Ibrahim Al Shaibani, Director General of HH the Dubai Ruler’s Court; Her Excellency Dr. Raja Easa Al Gurg, a member of the Dubai Health Board and Chairperson of Al Jalila Foundation; and other senior leaders from the Dubai Health Authority and the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU).

A Commitment to Giving

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed emphasized the significance of giving as a foundational principle in the UAE. He stated, “Giving is a deeply rooted value in the UAE, instilled by our Founding Fathers. Our leadership continues to build on this legacy through initiatives that make health and wellbeing central to national priorities.” His remarks underscored the collective effort to enhance the lives of individuals and strengthen the community’s spirit of generosity.

Building a Sustainable Support System

Dr. Raja Easa Al Gurg acknowledged The Cancer Fund as a pivotal advancement towards establishing a resilient support system for patients. She noted, “The Fund reflects a collaborative model where community and institutional contributions play essential roles in improving our healthcare infrastructure.” This approach aims to create a more cohesive society, fostering a collaborative environment that ultimately benefits all citizens.

Community Engagement

Dr. Amer Al Zarooni, CEO of Al Jalila Foundation, pointed out that the organization has dedicated its Ramadan 2026 campaign to support The Cancer Fund. This initiative aims to broaden the pathways for cancer patients to receive vital care. He highlighted that donations have positively impacted the lives of numerous individuals, revealing that contributions exceeded AED43 million over the previous year, enabling care for 650 cancer patients through the ‘A’awen’ program.

Call for Support

To further enhance the impact of The Cancer Fund, Al Jalila Foundation encourages both individuals and organizations to participate in the upcoming Ramadan campaign through its donation channels. Each contribution plays a critical role in ensuring that patients and their families can access timely treatment, echoing Dubai Health’s commitment to placing patients first.

By fostering a culture of giving, the foundation strives to make a substantial difference in the lives of those affected by cancer, reinforcing the collective strength of the community in the process.
