Dubai’s WETEX 2025: A Showcase of Sustainability and Innovation

Introduction to WETEX

The Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) has become a cornerstone event in Dubai, celebrating its 27th edition this year. Organized by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), this exhibition brings together over 3,100 companies from 65 countries, highlighting Dubai’s growing role as a global hub for sustainability and innovation.

Visionary Leadership

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, inaugurated the event, emphasizing Dubai’s commitment to a green economy. Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Dubai has positioned itself as a leader in addressing global climate challenges. Sheikh Ahmed remarked that WETEX serves as a pivotal platform for showcasing innovative solutions in energy, water, and technology, aligning with the UAE’s ambitious Net Zero by 2050 initiative.

A Platform for Innovation

WETEX has evolved into a significant event that fosters public-private partnerships and attracts investments. It showcases cutting-edge technologies and solutions in renewable energy, water conservation, and environmental sustainability. The exhibition runs from September 30 to October 2, 2025, and its impressive turnout underscores Dubai’s influence in the global sustainability landscape.

Key Highlights from the Exhibition

DEWA’s Role and Innovations

His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, highlighted the exhibition’s role in promoting innovation and cooperation. DEWA’s stand features several ambitious projects, including:

  • Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park: This solar park is the largest single-site facility of its kind, boasting a production capacity of 3,860 megawatts (MW). Plans are in place to expand this capacity to over 8,000 MW by 2030, significantly reducing carbon emissions.

  • Hatta Pumped-Storage Hydroelectric Power Plant: This groundbreaking project will have a capacity of 250 MW and is set to be the first of its kind in the Arabian Gulf, with an investment value of approximately AED 1.42 billion.

  • Al Shera’a: DEWA’s new headquarters aims to be the tallest and smartest net-positive energy government building globally, designed to achieve LEED Platinum certification.

Cutting-Edge Technologies

The exhibition also showcases DEWA’s innovative projects, such as:

  • Green Hydrogen Project: Located at the solar park, this initiative is the first of its kind in the MENA region, producing over 100 tonnes of green hydrogen to generate clean electricity.

  • EV Green Charger Initiative: This program supports the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) by providing a network of over 1,500 charging points across Dubai, promoting sustainable transport.

  • Smart Technologies: DEWA is leveraging AI and digital solutions to enhance operational efficiency. Initiatives like the Intelligent Distribution Grid and AI-driven net-load measurement are designed to optimize energy management.

Engaging with Global Partners

During the exhibition, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed toured various international pavilions, including those from China, Germany, and South Korea. He explored innovations from companies like Masdar, Siemens, and the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, showcasing the collaborative spirit of the event.

Educational and Networking Opportunities

WETEX also features a rich program of seminars and panel discussions, providing a platform for experts and decision-makers to exchange knowledge and best practices. This collaborative environment accelerates the pace of sustainable development both regionally and globally.

Conclusion

WETEX 2025 stands as a testament to Dubai’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. With its focus on renewable energy, water conservation, and environmental stewardship, the exhibition not only highlights the UAE’s achievements but also sets the stage for future advancements in these critical areas.
