MENAFN – Khaleej Times

In a dazzling celebration of Indian culture, classical art, and feminine strength, the event titled Nari Shakti, meaning “Power of Women,” shone brightly in Dubai. This remarkable occasion captivated over 1,500 attendees, each leaving deeply moved by the interconnected themes of artistry, empowerment, and cultural heritage. Conceived and executed entirely by women, Nari Shakti gathered an impressive ensemble of over 100 Indian classical dancers from across the UAE, showcasing fifteen captivating performances that culminated in the breathtaking Bharatanatyam production ‘Agni Kanye.’

The mastermind behind this grand event was the visionary choreographer and cultural ambassador, Guru Iswarya Bharadwaj. As the founder of the NANDA Performing Arts Centre and the Gulf Indian Performing Arts & Music Society (GIPAMS), Iswarya played a pivotal role in presenting a rich tapestry of talent, demonstrating the UAE’s commitment to nurturing artistic excellence, community spirit, and gender empowerment.

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the production ‘Agni Kanye,’ which portrayed the life and emotional journey of Draupadi, an iconic symbol of resilience, dignity, and divine strength. This poignant performance featured artists spanning diverse ages, from as young as five to seasoned performers aged fifty. This intergenerational collaboration illustrated not only the unifying power of the arts but also the importance of passing down cultural narratives through generations.

Nari Shakti was a celebration that reflected grassroots creativity, made possible through the support of the Indian People’s Forum (IPF) alongside several local organisations and brands. The event was characterized by handmade props, original costumes, and an all-women-led planning and execution team. Additionally, there were inclusive exhibits featuring artworks by people of determination and creations by women artists, ensuring a diverse representation of feminine strength.

A significant aspect of the event was the conferral of the Nari Shakti title upon three inspiring women who exemplified the essence of the term:

  • Karthika Vaidyanathan, a Filmfare award-winning Carnatic singer
  • Puja Unni, an accomplished classical dancer
  • Renuka Parameshwar, a dedicated Carnatic music teacher

“Nari Shakti is more than a show, it’s a movement,” Iswarya Bharadwaj proclaimed. She envisions launching corporate wellness programs driven by the arts, counseling aspiring artists, and performing for the Rulers of the UAE to honor their inclusive vision and unwavering support for culture and women.

Iswarya’s journey is remarkable in itself. Having performed across 500+ global stages — including the UK Parliament and Expo 2020 Dubai — her trajectory from humble beginnings in the UAE to becoming a celebrated global performer mirrors the Emirates’ inclusive and aspirational ethos.
