We’ve got an Omaha rematch on our hands!

Following a tough loss to No. 13 Coastal Carolina, No. 8 Oregon State baseball (48-15-1) is set to take on Louisville (41-23) in a crucial elimination game on Tuesday, June 17, at Charles Schwab Stadium. This game marks their second matchup in the 2025 College World Series, with both teams vying to stay alive in the tournament.

Under the leadership of sixth-year head coach Mitch Canham, the Beavers are making a triumphant return to Omaha, a place they last visited in 2018 when they claimed the national championship. As three-time national champions (2006, 2007, 2018), Oregon State is making its eighth appearance at the College World Series, with 2025 being Canham’s inaugural trip to the famed Charles Schwab Field as the program’s head coach.

Oregon State enters this pivotal stage as the third-highest seeded team, ranked No. 8 nationally. The landscape also includes No. 3 Arkansas (48-13) and No. 6 LSU (48-15) in top seeding, alongside other nationally-seeded programs like No. 13 Coastal Carolina (53-11) and No. 15 UCLA (47-16). The unseeded teams include Arizona (44-19), Louisville, and Murray State (44-15).

Oregon State vs. Louisville Baseball Start Time

This highly anticipated matchup is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, at 11 a.m. PT. The first game of the day, the winner will advance to face No. 13 Coastal Carolina on Wednesday, while the losing team will be eliminated from the tournament. Both teams have yet to announce their starting pitchers, adding an element of suspense to the matchup.

How the Cardinals Got to Omaha

Entering the postseason with a regular season record of 35-20 (15-15 in ACC play), Louisville faced some challenges but rallied to secure their place at the College World Series. After a disappointing first-round loss to Pittsburgh in the ACC tournament, head coach Dan McDonnell’s squad rebounded magnificently. The Cardinals, as a two-seed in the Nashville Regional, seized an opportunity and defeated East Tennessee State, Vanderbilt, and Wright State to punch their ticket to Omaha on June 8.

This marks the eighth trip to Omaha for Louisville, following previous appearances in 2007, 2013, 2014, 2017, and 2019. Notably, they have yet to clinch a national championship, which adds to the pressure and determination for this year’s squad.

In their first game of the 2025 College World Series, the Cardinals encountered Oregon State and fell short, even after putting forth a solid effort that saw Beavers outfielder Gavin Turley hit a walk-off double. However, the Cardinals bounced back in their elimination match against Arizona, displaying resilience by scoring six runs in the eighth inning to secure an 8-3 victory over the Wildcats.

Potential Starting Pitchers

Louisville

  • LHP Justin West (2-2, 5.82 ERA)
  • RHP Brennyn Cutts (3-1, 4.89 ERA)

The Cardinals may be looking at a makeshift rotation after having utilized RHP Tucker Biven in a four-inning relief stint against Arizona. With a limited pool of pitchers due to postseason fatigue, they will need creatively manage their bullpen to secure victory. West has contributed as a reliever in the World Series, while Cutts may get his first postseason start in this high-stakes game.

Oregon State

  • RHP James DeCremer (3-0, 5.34 ERA)
  • RHP Eric Segura (8-2, 4.71 ERA)
  • LHP Nelson Keljo (3-2, 3.74 ERA)

The Beavers’ pitching depth provides them with ample flexibility heading into the matchup. Segura has already seen action in Omaha, while DeCremer has experience in elimination games. Keljo, having transitioned to the bullpen, adds more options for the coaching staff as they strategize ahead of this crucial game.

As the anticipation builds, both teams will look to capitalize on their strengths: Louisville aiming to create offensive chaos, while the Beavers focus on maintaining defensive discipline and avoiding costly errors, hoping to secure a spot in the next round.
