His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has approved the New Fourth Corridor project, which aims to enhance connectivity across the UAE. The announcement was reported by ME Construction News.
The New Fourth Corridor will stretch approximately 80 kilometres from Al Faya Road in Abu Dhabi to Al Shanouf Road in Sharjah and will be developed in two phases. The first phase, which will connect Al Shanouf Road to Dubai–Al Ain Road, is estimated to cost around $953 million.
This ambitious project will feature 72 bridges, 17 tunnels, and 45 stormwater drainage culverts, significantly supporting logistics traffic. It will also pass through key landmarks, including Al Maktoum International Airport and various conservation reserves, as well as residential and development areas.
Sheikh Hamdan emphasised that the project aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, aiming to build world-class infrastructure that fosters growth and enhances the quality of life in Dubai. He noted that the New Fourth Corridor will strengthen Dubai’s connectivity with the federal road network and open new avenues for urban and economic development.
As the fourth strategic corridor linking the UAE’s cities, the New Fourth Corridor will complement existing routes such as Sheikh Zayed/Al Ittihad Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, and Emirates Road. It is designed to facilitate movement between emirates and improve integration with the transport system, particularly through connections to Al Maktoum International Airport and the Etihad Rail.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority, stated that the project reflects Dubai’s commitment to developing integrated and sustainable infrastructure. He highlighted that the New Fourth Corridor will help divert heavy traffic away from urban areas, thereby easing congestion and enhancing road safety.
The first phase will include a 30-kilometre corridor with 12 lanes in both directions, reducing travel time significantly from 35 minutes to just 14 minutes. It is expected to accommodate up to 24,000 vehicles per hour and serve around 600,000 residents.
Phase two will extend 50 kilometres from Dubai–Al Ain Road to Al Faya Road, featuring similar lane capacity and further reducing journey times. This phase is projected to serve approximately 3.1 million people.
Overall, the New Fourth Corridor project represents a significant investment in Dubai’s infrastructure, reinforcing its status as a global economic hub and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
