UAE Launches Passenger Rail Services: A Strategic Investment in Future Connectivity, Says Nahyan bin Mubarak
Abu Dhabi: Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, recently embarked on a passenger train journey from Mohamed bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi to Fujairah Station. This trip occurred shortly after the inauguration of scheduled passenger rail services in the UAE, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s transport sector.
The launch of these services underscores the UAE’s commitment to developing world-class infrastructure, enhancing the quality of life for its citizens. Accompanying Sheikh Nahyan on this journey was Abdullah Sultan Al Nuaimi, the Minister of Justice. They were welcomed aboard by Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail.
During the trip, Sheikh Nahyan engaged with Emirati nationals working on the train and received insights into the operational systems and passenger services. He experienced the various features and amenities designed to meet the highest global standards, ensuring a safe, modern, and comfortable travel experience.

Future Expansion and Connectivity
The launch of passenger rail services comes less than five years after its announcement as part of the UAE’s “Projects of the 50.” This initiative has transformed from an ambitious vision into a reality, reinforcing the modern transport system and supporting the UAE’s ongoing investment in advanced infrastructure projects.
Since ticket bookings opened, Etihad Rail’s services between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah have seen strong demand, with six daily trips operating during the introductory phase. The service offers passengers a range of advanced travel experiences, including guaranteed seating, complimentary wireless internet, charging ports at every seat, and ample luggage space. Premium Class services are also available, designed to provide the highest levels of comfort and luxury.
Looking ahead, Etihad Rail’s passenger services are set to expand to include operations at Dubai and Al Dhaid Stations starting September 30, 2026. Following this, stations in the Al Dhafra region will begin operations on December 30, 2026, culminating in the opening of Sharjah Station on March 30, 2027. This expansion will further enhance connectivity across the emirates and support sustainable development, marking a new chapter in the future of transportation in the UAE.
