Specialized Rehabilitation Hospital Breaks Ground on Major Extension to Strengthen UAE’s Largest Integrated Rehabilitation Facility

Abu Dhabi – UAE: Specialized Rehabilitation Hospital (SRH), a prominent facility under Capital Health, has officially commenced construction on a significant extension in Abu Dhabi. This development represents a crucial step in enhancing its role as an integrated center for rehabilitation and specialty care.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by notable figures, including H.E. Dr. Fayeza Saif Nasir Alyafe, Executive Director of the Healthcare Quality Sector at the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi; H.E. Khalifa Al Mazrouei, Group Chief Investment Officer of Abu Dhabi Capital Group (ADCG); H.E. Abubaker Seddiq Al Khoori, Group Chief Executive Officer of ADCG; and Dr. Mishal Al Qasimi, CEO of Specialized Rehabilitation Hospital and Health Shield Medical Center. Senior leadership and staff from SRH were also present.

Expansion Details and Services

The new facility, which will be constructed adjacent to the existing hospital, aims to significantly enhance SRH’s rehabilitation and specialty care offerings. It will integrate various services, including inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient subspecialty services, orthopaedic and musculoskeletal care, neurosciences, sports medicine, physical medicine, and cardiac rehabilitation into a unified care model.

H.E. Abubaker Seddiq Al Khoori emphasized the importance of healthcare investment in strengthening the resilience and future readiness of the health system. He noted that the expansion reflects confidence in Abu Dhabi’s vision for specialized care and a commitment to supporting institutions that can deliver excellence and retain complex care within the UAE.

H.E. Khalifa Al Mazrouei highlighted that this expansion aligns with long-term investments aimed at building specialized healthcare capacity in Abu Dhabi. He stated that SRH has established a strong reputation for clinical excellence, and the new development will extend its impact to a broader patient base across the UAE and the region.

Strategic Goals and Future Capacity

The expansion is expected to be completed and operational by the end of 2028, increasing SRH’s total capacity to over 230 inpatient rehabilitation beds, more than 30 outpatient clinics and treatment rooms, and approximately 12 Bayt Al Qudra rehabilitation gyms. This growth will position SRH as the largest integrated rehabilitation hospital in the UAE, featuring the highest number of inpatient rehabilitation beds and outpatient clinics under one roof.

The new facility will also introduce additional outpatient subspecialty services in neurology, sports medicine, physical medicine, and cardiac rehabilitation for both pediatric and adult patients. These services will offer advanced diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitation pathways, allowing patients to access comprehensive specialized care in a single location.

Advanced Facilities and Technological Integration

A key aspect of the development includes the addition of modern operating theatres, including the innovative “OR of the future.” These facilities will support a wide range of orthopaedic and musculoskeletal surgeries, seamlessly connected to SRH’s rehabilitation programs. This integration aims to facilitate smoother transitions from surgery to recovery, improve clinical outcomes, and enhance the overall patient experience.

The project aligns with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, which seeks to improve healthcare quality, enhance population health outcomes, and reduce the necessity for patients to seek specialized treatment abroad. Additionally, the extension will bolster Abu Dhabi’s medical tourism strategy by establishing a comprehensive center of excellence for rehabilitation, orthopedic care, neurosciences, sports medicine, and physical medicine.
