Junior Achievement (JA) Africa Delivers 1.6 Million Learning Experiences in FY2025, Achieving Twelve-Fold Growth Over Five Years

JA (Junior Achievement) Africa, a prominent youth-serving organization on the continent, has announced its Annual Impact Report for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025. The report highlights a significant year of growth and innovation, showcasing the delivery of 1,637,137 learning experiences across 23 African countries. This figure represents a remarkable increase from the 131,260 experiences recorded in FY2021, positioning JA Africa as the fastest-growing region within the global JA Worldwide network. Over the past five years, the organization has cumulatively provided 4,269,881 learning experiences in areas such as entrepreneurship, financial capability, work readiness, STEM, and sustainability.

Closing the “Boundless” Strategic Cycle

The FY2025 report marks the conclusion of JA Africa’s “Boundless” strategic cycle, a five-year initiative developed in collaboration with Accenture. This framework is built on four key pillars: Accelerate Digital, Empower the Underserved, Cultivate Partnerships, and Strengthen OneJA. During this period, JA Africa expanded its reach from delivering 200,000 learning experiences annually in 12 countries to over 1.5 million in 23 countries. This transformation was facilitated by enhanced systems, governance, digital infrastructure, and a commitment to excellence in execution.

Simi Nwogugu, President and CEO of JA Africa, emphasized that the focus was never solely on scale but rather on meaningful impact. She stated, “What stands out most is not only how much we have grown, but how intentionally we have grown.”

Achievements of the Social Equity Program

A notable highlight from the report is the success of the Social Equity Program (SEP), which exceeded all targets in FY2025. Supported by the Z Zurich Foundation, the program provided learning experiences to 53,970 young individuals who were not engaged in education, employment, or training across seven countries, achieving 115% of its target. The program also conducted 476 bootcamps, double the anticipated number. Its impact extended beyond traditional education: 554 youth launched social enterprises addressing critical issues such as water scarcity, malnutrition, waste management, and climate change. Furthermore, 1,006 graduates secured employment within six months of completing the program, and 521 jobs were created through enterprises supported by SEP. In Burkina Faso, JA Africa formalized a three-year partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Entrepreneurship Promotion, reflecting increasing governmental commitment to youth empowerment.

Digital Entrepreneurship Education Program’s Milestones

JA Africa’s Digital Entrepreneurship Education Program (JA DEEP), launched with support from the Citi Foundation and enhanced with backing from the Z Zurich Foundation, achieved record participation this year. A total of 66,546 participants completed core modules, with over 50% being women. More than 2,000 participants advanced to pitch business ideas or transition into internships and apprenticeships. In Tanzania, alumnus Mohammed Salim Suleiman utilized the training to establish Akili Hub LMS, a digital learning platform for secondary school students, and was subsequently selected for the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship 2025.

Acknowledgments to Institutional Partners

The extensive reach documented in this report would not have been possible without the dedication of JA Africa’s institutional partners. The organization expressed gratitude to the Z Zurich Foundation, ExxonMobil Foundation, Prudence Foundation, Project Management Institute Educational Foundation, Delta Air Lines, Boeing, FedEx, Johnson & Johnson, and the Citi Foundation. Their ongoing support has been instrumental in empowering Africa’s youth. Special recognition was given to the Citi Foundation as the partnership celebrates 30 years, a legacy that has positively influenced thousands of entrepreneurial journeys across the continent.

JA Africa acknowledged the contributions of every partner, donor, volunteer, teacher, and government institution involved in its initiatives, emphasizing that their support is an investment in the future architects of Africa.
