Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Accelerates Al Mamzar Beaches Project, Enhancing Dubai’s Coastal Appeal

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, recently inspected the Al Mamzar Beaches development project, a key initiative by Dubai Municipality. This project, with an investment of AED 500 million, aims to establish a premier family beach destination.

Accompanying Sheikh Mohammed were H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai. The Al Mamzar Beaches project is part of a broader strategy to enhance beach infrastructure and transform Dubai’s coastline into world-class urban and tourism destinations.

Strategic Development Goals

Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the importance of this project in the context of Dubai’s vision to become the best city in the world to live in by 2040. He noted that the recently approved AED 3 billion Dubai Beaches development plan aims to increase beach capacity for tourists and visitors by 170%.

During the tour, he stated, “Today, I toured Al Mamzar Beaches, one of our strategic projects nearing completion. It will become one of Dubai’s leading family destinations, spanning 4 million square feet and capable of accommodating up to 7 million visitors annually.” He further asserted that the pace of development will accelerate, reflecting a commitment to a clear agenda for future achievements.

Sheikh Mohammed was also joined by H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Ports and Borders Security Council, along with other key officials including Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Urban Planning, and Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism.

Project Overview and Features

Eng. Marwan bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, provided an update on the Al Mamzar Beaches project, which is part of a larger AED 3 billion portfolio of premium beachfront developments. This portfolio includes significant locations such as Al Mamzar Corniche and Lagoon, Jumeirah 1, and future projects in Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3, Umm Suqeim 1 and 2, and Jebel Ali Beach, all planned through 2030.

The project aligns with the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, which aims to enhance public spaces, promote healthy lifestyles, and improve community well-being. It also supports the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan by advancing beachfront development and strengthening urban infrastructure, in accordance with Dubai’s Blue and Green Spaces Roadmap 2030.

Designed to meet increasing visitor demand, Al Mamzar Beaches will feature 35 service and leisure facilities, all built to international standards and accessible to people of determination. The project is projected to significantly increase annual visitor numbers to 7 million, with a 500% boost in service capacity, including enhanced safety and rescue infrastructure, and the creation of over 65 new investment opportunities.

Notable features of the project include the world’s first 24/7 women-only beach offering night swimming, a floating walkway at Al Mamzar Lagoon, and a waterfront restaurant.

Integrated Beach Experience and Technological Advancements

The development will also include more than 5.5 kilometers of walking, running, and cycling tracks, linking the lagoon, corniche, and Al Mamzar Beach Park, thereby creating a cohesive beach-and-park experience.

Dubai Municipality is advancing the digital infrastructure of its beaches by incorporating advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things. This initiative is part of the municipality’s smart city operations, aimed at enhancing public safety and improving beach services through faster response times and intelligent systems. This approach is designed to protect beach users and reinforce Dubai’s reputation as a leader in smart beach safety.

Eng. Marwan bin Ghalita stated that the Al Mamzar Beaches project will redefine family beach destinations, strengthening Dubai’s network of beaches and waterfronts while bolstering its status as a global tourism hub. He affirmed that Dubai Municipality is committed to delivering high standards of safety, sustainability, and service quality in the upcoming destination.

Environmental Considerations and Economic Impact

Al Mamzar Lagoon Beach will cover 2.75 million square feet and will feature a 300-meter night swimming beach, children’s play areas, gyms, water sports zones, jet ski docks, and shaded beachfront spaces. Al Mamzar Corniche, spanning 1.25 million square feet, will cater to visitors seeking privacy and premium experiences, including a dedicated women’s beach with full privacy, sports facilities, art walkways, and seasonal event spaces.

The project integrates investment opportunities across retail, dining, water sports, and recreational services, encouraging private sector participation and boosting economic activity at the beaches. In alignment with climate adaptation goals, 350,000 cubic meters of sand have been utilized in land reclamation to enhance coastal resilience and provide necessary protection for beachgoers, based on specialized environmental studies.

The developments at Al Mamzar Lagoon and Corniche represent a significant advancement in public beach design, delivering a comprehensive destination that merges leisure, tourism, and community value.
