Nutanix and NetApp Accelerate Hybrid Multicloud Modernization with New Integration of Intelligent Data Infrastructure

DUBAI, UAE – Nutanix (NASDAQ: NTNX), a prominent player in hybrid multicloud computing, has announced a strategic collaboration with NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP), recognized for its Intelligent Data Infrastructure. This partnership aims to integrate NetApp’s Intelligent Data Infrastructure, built on its enterprise storage systems, with the Nutanix Cloud Platform (NCP) and the Nutanix AHV hypervisor. The integration is set to launch later this year.

This collaboration seeks to provide customers with enhanced options to optimize their virtualization and data strategies across various environments, including on-premises, cloud, and containerized settings. The integration will merge the robust data management capabilities of NetApp ONTAP® with the comprehensive hybrid multicloud operations offered by NCP.

Sandeep Singh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Enterprise Storage at NetApp, emphasized that the partnership is designed to facilitate the modernization of virtualized environments. He noted that whether customers aim to transform their virtualization layer, data operations, or both, the foundation of Intelligent Data Infrastructure is essential. The combined capabilities of NetApp and Nutanix will simplify the management of virtualized workloads at an enterprise scale.

Key Benefits of the Integration

Modernization of Virtualization and Hypervisor Layer

The integration of NCP with NetApp’s Intelligent Data Infrastructure presents a new pathway for customers to modernize their on-premises and cloud environments. This collaboration is intended to optimize storage solutions while providing flexibility for future containerized workloads.

Accelerated Migration

The NFS-based integration between NCP and NetApp ONTAP is designed to streamline the migration of virtual machines (VMs) to Nutanix. This approach aims to reduce complexity and enhance the speed of value realization. Customers can expect quicker data-in-place conversions of VMs, often completed in minutes, using the NetApp Shift toolkit and Nutanix Move, allowing for faster operational readiness.

Simplified Operations

The intuitive management features across NetApp ONTAP and NCP are expected to alleviate the administrative and operational burdens commonly associated with enterprise virtualized environments. The joint solution intends to delegate data management to ONTAP, enabling independent scaling of compute and storage resources. Organizations utilizing NCP will benefit from the security, performance, resilience, and data mobility capabilities inherent in NetApp ONTAP.

VM-Granular Operations

By leveraging the advanced functionalities of both NetApp and Nutanix, customers will gain the ability to manage their virtual environments at a granular level. This capability allows for precise management of performance, storage capacity, and recovery methods from a unified management interface.

Built-in Cyber Resilience

The integration aims to enhance enterprises’ ability to protect workloads across hybrid cloud environments. Customers will have access to NetApp ONTAP’s Autonomous Ransomware Protection with AI (ARP/AI) and the NetApp Ransomware Resilience service, which are designed to detect threats and exfiltration attempts in real time.

Dallas Olson, Chief Commercial Officer at NetApp, stated that this partnership reinforces NetApp’s position as a leading provider of storage and data management solutions for virtualization. He highlighted that the collaboration provides enterprises with the necessary foundation to build Intelligent Data Infrastructure that meets their performance, resilience, and scalability needs.

Tarkan Maner, President and Chief Commercial Officer at Nutanix, noted that the partnership enables customers to modernize their virtualization platforms while harnessing the power of Intelligent Data Infrastructure. He emphasized the flexibility for customers to modernize at their own pace.

Future Developments and AI Integration

As the partnership evolves, Nutanix and NetApp plan to accelerate AI innovation by integrating NetApp ONTAP into the Nutanix Agentic AI solution. This full software stack is specifically designed to assist customers in adopting Agentic AI for business transformation.

Sush Kajaria, EMEA Alliance Sales Director at Nutanix, remarked that organizations in the Middle East and Africa are increasingly prioritizing modernization strategies that enhance performance while simplifying operations and bolstering data resilience. He expressed confidence that the collaboration with NetApp would enable regional customers to modernize their environments effectively, accelerate migration, and establish a future-ready foundation for hybrid multicloud and AI workloads.

Analyst Insights

Industry analysts have noted that this collaboration signifies a broader shift toward solutions that integrate infrastructure modernization with intelligent data services. According to Matt Kimball, VP and Principal Analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, Nutanix and NetApp are providing customers with a stable foundation that supports traditional virtualized workloads while positioning them for future cloud-native and AI-driven environments.

Partner Perspectives

Jeremy Foster, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cisco Compute, commented on the extended partnership with NetApp, highlighting its role in evolving the FlexPod ecosystem to meet the demands of a hyper-distributed world. He indicated that this integration would enable joint customers to leverage Cisco’s high-performance networking and compute alongside NetApp storage and NCP, creating a unified and automated environment conducive to modern cloud-native operations.

Joachim Schmitz, Field CTO at System Vertrieb Alexander GmbH, expressed that this partnership demonstrates a serious commitment from both vendors to meet enterprise customer needs, making it possible to address use cases with the highest availability requirements.

Availability

The Nutanix Cloud Platform, integrated with NetApp AFF all-flash A-series and select FAS hybrid-flash systems, is expected to be available later this year. This launch will also include Cisco’s collaboration on FlexPod with Nutanix.
