Dubai Municipality Accelerates EV Charging Infrastructure with 600 New Stations in Public Spaces
Dubai Municipality has initiated a significant project to install electric vehicle (EV) supercharging stations across 600 parking spaces located in public parks, beaches, and recreational facilities. This initiative, which involves a planned investment of AED 150 million, is being executed in collaboration with Emarat EV Charging Stations Company (UAEV).
Commitment to Sustainable Public Spaces
This initiative underscores Dubai Municipality’s dedication to creating future-oriented public spaces that promote sustainability and encourage healthier lifestyles. The project aims to enhance the quality of life for both residents and visitors in the emirate.
Aligned with the Greenery and Parks Strategy 2040, the initiative positions Dubai’s public areas as vital components of the city’s sustainable mobility ecosystem. By integrating EV charging stations into popular recreational sites, the project aims to improve access to clean transportation options and elevate the overall visitor experience.
Strategic Partnership and Economic Alignment
The project is also in line with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33, which emphasizes robust private sector involvement in developing sustainable urban infrastructure. The collaboration with UAEV reflects Dubai Municipality’s commitment to utilizing private sector expertise and innovation to enhance public services.
The first phase of this initiative will see the installation of 75 EV supercharging stations across 150 parking bays within the next two years. The charging infrastructure will be strategically placed in major parks, neighborhood parks, and public beaches, ensuring that residents and visitors have convenient access to charging facilities throughout Dubai.
Enhancing Accessibility and Convenience
Eng Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and Chairman of UAEV, highlighted the importance of this partnership. He stated that the collaboration aims to expand access to EV charging infrastructure at key community destinations, including parks and public facilities. This integration of charging solutions into everyday locations is intended to make sustainable mobility more accessible for everyone.
Badr Anwahi, CEO of the Public Facilities Agency at Dubai Municipality, emphasized the initiative’s role in transforming public spaces into integrated environments that support evolving lifestyles and sustainable mobility. By embedding EV charging infrastructure in parks and beaches, the project enables residents and visitors to make environmentally responsible choices as part of their daily routines.
Supporting National Sustainability Goals
Ali Al Darwish, Acting CEO of UAEV, expressed that this collaboration allows for the expansion of EV charging infrastructure into everyday community spaces, thereby making sustainable mobility more accessible. The project is a significant milestone in advancing UAEV’s goals and aligns with the broader initiative of creating a global market for electric vehicles.
This initiative supports the UAE’s long-term vision to accelerate the transition towards an integrated and sustainable mobility ecosystem. It contributes to the national target of increasing electric vehicle adoption to 50% of the total vehicle fleet by 2050, while also supporting the UAE Net Zero by 2050 Strategic Initiative and the UAE Energy Strategy 2050.
Redefining Public Spaces
The initiative represents a shift in how public spaces are designed and managed, transforming them from mere recreational destinations into smart, sustainable environments that promote modern mobility patterns and environmentally responsible living. By embedding EV infrastructure within parks and beaches, Dubai Municipality is redefining these areas as essential components of the city’s future urban ecosystem.
Visitors will have the opportunity to charge their vehicles while engaging in outdoor activities, sports, and family outings, making sustainable choices more convenient and seamlessly integrated into daily life.
Future Collaborations and Innovations
The project aligns with Dubai’s broader ambition to accelerate electric vehicle adoption and reduce carbon emissions. It supports national and emirate-level strategies focused on clean energy transition, smart infrastructure, and climate resilience.
Dubai Municipality continues to invite private sector partners, operators, investors, and innovation-driven companies to collaborate in shaping the next generation of public infrastructure. Through strategic partnerships, the Municipality aims to integrate technology, sustainability, and service excellence into public environments, ensuring long-term operational efficiency and enhanced user experience.
Dubai Municipality remains committed to investing in innovative solutions that ensure the emirate’s public spaces are inclusive, accessible, and environmentally responsible destinations for current and future generations.
