Ministry of Climate Change and Environment Strengthens Food Supply Chain for Eid Al Fitr with Enhanced Operational Readiness

The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) has declared its full operational readiness and initiated a proactive plan to guarantee the continuous flow of food, agricultural, and animal consignments through all entry points in the UAE. This initiative is aimed at preparing for Eid Al Fitr and addressing the increasing demand in local markets.

Coordination with Relevant Authorities

The Ministry is collaborating closely with various authorities throughout the UAE to provide essential technical resources and specialized personnel. This effort is designed to expedite inspection and clearance procedures for a wide array of commodities, including fresh fruits, vegetables, and meat products, while maintaining the highest standards of food safety.

This announcement follows a series of field inspections conducted by MOCCAE teams in partnership with local authorities. These inspections focused on agricultural and veterinary quarantine centers at entry points to assess operational workflows and monitor the swift customs clearance of food and agricultural consignments.

Commitment to National Food Security

Mohammed Saeed Al Nuaimi, Under-Secretary of MOCCAE, emphasized that the Ministry operates in alignment with the directives of the UAE’s leadership to strengthen national food security. The Ministry has adopted an advanced and flexible operational framework to ensure the easy availability of essential goods for consumers.

Al Nuaimi noted that the border entry points across all Emirates, each holding strategic and commercial significance on the global trade map, are functioning with exceptional efficiency and at maximum capacity. This extensive logistics network serves as the first line of defense in safeguarding the community by ensuring the safety and integrity of all incoming consignments.

Livestock and Agricultural Consignments

Between January 1 and March 18, 2026, the UAE received and processed 1,454 livestock consignments, totaling 441,574 heads of various livestock, including sheep, goats, cattle, and camels. Al Nuaimi confirmed that these substantial incoming volumes, along with the daily flow of thousands of tonnes of fresh fruits and vegetables, adequately meet local market demands, demonstrating the robustness of supply chains directed towards UAE markets.

Marwan Al Zaabi, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Regions Sector at MOCCAE, stated that import operations for various food commodities have proceeded smoothly in recent days to fulfill Eid Al Fitr requirements. Key centers are receiving large and diverse consignments daily, including fruits, vegetables, and meat products. Field teams at all entry points are working around the clock to provide efficient service to customers and suppliers, ensuring that inspection and clearance procedures are completed swiftly.

Ensuring Food Safety

Addressing quality and inspection standards, Al Zaabi highlighted that food safety is a cornerstone of the national food security system and is crucial for ensuring the integrity of food shipments. He reassured that the increased flow of imports to meet Eid demand does not compromise regulatory oversight.

Al Zaabi explained that stringent protocols are in place at border entry points to ensure that all goods and consignments are free from contaminants or risks before entering the country and reaching consumers. Inspection procedures at agricultural and veterinary quarantine centers include precise tracking of consignment origins, thorough verification of documentation and health certificates, and meticulous inspection of live animals and agricultural crops.

Samples from shipments undergo advanced laboratory testing to confirm compliance with the UAE’s highest approved standards. A strict immediate rejection policy is enforced for any shipment found to be non-compliant, ensuring that the country’s markets remain protected and safe.

Integrated Operational System

Al Zaabi further noted that all land, sea, and air entry points operate in harmony within a unified and flexible operational system. This system is managed through an operations room that ensures real-time coordination with strategic partners and relevant local authorities.

This logistical integration allows the UAE to receive food, agricultural, and animal consignments from diverse and reliable global sources. It reflects the Ministry’s successful strategy of diversifying import markets, thereby strengthening the country’s competitive position in import and export operations and providing a wide range of options to meet community needs ahead of Eid Al Fitr.

Enhancing Supply Chain Efficiency

On the logistics front, Al Zaabi highlighted that the Ministry is implementing innovative mechanisms designed to shorten domestic supply chains and maximize efficiency. These integrated mechanisms accelerate inspection and clearance procedures immediately upon the arrival of shipments at entry points, significantly reducing the time required for goods and fresh produce to move from ports to retail shelves.

This operational approach ensures that consumers receive food products that maintain high levels of quality and freshness. It also demonstrates the efficiency and flexibility of the UAE’s food supply system, which is capable of meeting any surge in demand.

In response to the demands of the Eid Al Fitr season, the Ministry has further strengthened its regulatory and operational framework at agricultural and veterinary quarantine centers. This includes increasing the number of specialized personnel, such as veterinarians, agricultural engineers, and laboratory technicians, and activating fast-track clearance channels. These measures ensure the seamless and efficient flow of safe food products, helping to maintain well-supplied and stable markets that meet community expectations.
