As the investigation progressed, Microsoft revealed that the disruption may have been linked to a third-party networking issue that could have impacted access for users of Microsoft 365, encompassing both Teams and Outlook.

As the day unfolded, reports of the outage dramatically decreased. By 10:44 PM ET, the number of problems reported dropped to just 77, a remarkable reduction from nearly 20,000 earlier in the day. Similarly, there was a notable decline in reports of issues with Microsoft Azure, which fell to 230 by 6:49 PM ET after peaking at over 18,000.
