Enhancing Worker Awareness: A Joint Campaign by Dubai Police and MoHRE
In a significant initiative aimed at empowering workers, the Dubai Police, in collaboration with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), has successfully concluded an awareness campaign that impacted approximately 9,200 workers across five prominent labour accommodation areas in Dubai.
Campaign Launch and Objectives
Kicking off in October, the campaign was designed to bolster workers’ understanding of their rights and responsibilities. Its overarching goal was to enhance both legal and digital awareness while safeguarding workers from exploitation and fraud. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to support the wellbeing of workers and acknowledge their essential role in the UAE’s sustainable development.
Dalal Al Shehhi, the Acting Assistant Under-Secretary for the Labour Protection Sector at MoHRE, emphasized that increasing awareness is a vital component of the Ministry’s strategy to govern the labour market effectively and improve its competitiveness. She pointed out the importance of field campaigns, digital outreach, and direct engagement in empowering workers with crucial knowledge.
Collaboration with Dubai Police
Al Shehhi expressed her appreciation for the partnership with Dubai Police under the “Know Your Rights” initiative. This collaboration introduced elements of security awareness, aiming to foster a sense of belonging among workers and to promote safety and stability across Dubai and the broader UAE.
Colonel Arif Bishoh, Director of Crime Prevention at Dubai Police, highlighted that programs focused on worker awareness form a key pillar of the force’s preventive strategy. He reiterated the notion that security is a collective responsibility. Raising awareness among workers not only helps in crime reduction but also enhances community stability.
Targeted Outreach in Labour Accommodations
The campaign specifically targeted labour accommodations located in Al Warsan, Jebel Ali 1, Muhaisnah 2, Al Quoz, and Jebel Ali Industrial. Workshops during the campaign covered a diverse range of topics, such as labour rights, road safety, and crime prevention. Special attention was given to risks associated with cybercrime, online fraud, and drug abuse.
The initiative also served to familiarize workers with Dubai Police communication channels, including the emergency number 999 and the non-emergency number 901. Participants learned about the Police Eye service, the Dubai Police smart application, and the e-Crime Hub platform, all designed to facilitate effective reporting of incidents and access to support.
Ongoing Cooperation for Community Safety
Officials involved in the initiative highlighted its role in fostering continued collaboration between MoHRE and Dubai Police. This joint effort aims to enhance understanding of labour laws, dissuade negative behaviors, and provide clear avenues for communication. Such initiatives are instrumental in building a more informed and safer community within the UAE.
By integrating legal education with community safety initiatives, this campaign represents a proactive approach to ensuring that workers not only understand their rights but also feel secure and supported in their working environments. The emphasis on communication and education is a testament to the commitment shared by both MoHRE and Dubai Police in nurturing a positive and secure atmosphere for all workers in the region.
