Dubai Airport Enters a New Era with Al Maktoum International

Dubai has officially embarked on the construction of Al Maktoum International Airport, poised to become the largest and most advanced airport in the world. Situated in the Dubai South district, this ambitious project aims to redefine air travel in the region. The first phase is set to be completed by 2032, ultimately replacing the existing Dubai International Airport (DXB) as the city’s primary aviation hub.

Massive Scale and Cutting-Edge Technology

Designed to accommodate up to 260 million passengers annually, Al Maktoum International Airport will cover an impressive 70 square kilometers. The airport will feature five parallel runways and over 400 aircraft gates, making it more than five times the size of DXB, which currently holds the title of the world’s busiest international airport.

Beyond its sheer size, Al Maktoum International is set to incorporate groundbreaking travel technology. The airport will offer automated check-in and boarding processes, AI-driven security systems, and robotic staff, establishing a new benchmark for passenger experience worldwide.

First Phase in Motion

Construction is already in progress, with contractors mobilized and a Dhs1 billion contract awarded for the development of a second runway. The initial phase will include a new terminal, four concourses, and the capacity to handle 150 million passengers each year.

Dubai’s Vision for Growth

This significant development aligns with Dubai’s long-term economic strategy, supporting the emirate’s D33 Agenda and the anticipated growth in tourism and logistics sectors. According to HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the airport will serve as the nucleus of a new city designed to accommodate over a million residents and attract leading transport and logistics companies.
