Art Dubai Strengthens Cultural Landscape with Special Edition Scheduled for 15-17 May 2026
Dubai is set to host the special edition of Art Dubai, a leading art fair under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. This edition will take place at Madinat Jumeirah from May 15 to 17, 2026, with a VIP preview scheduled for May 14. The event aims to reinforce Dubai’s status as a global hub for culture, arts, and the creative economy.
For two decades, Art Dubai has served as a platform for artists, galleries, and collectors, contributing significantly to the region’s cultural landscape. This special edition reflects both the historical significance and contemporary relevance of the fair, showcasing a focused program that emphasizes independence, local roots, and diverse global perspectives.
Focus on Regional Art Scene
The 2026 program will feature over 75 presentations from commercial galleries, institutional participants, and partners, highlighting the galleries, institutions, and communities that have shaped the region’s art market. The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) is collaborating closely with A.R.M. Holding and various cultural institutions to support the creative economy, further integrating public and private sector roles.
Benedetta Ghione, Executive Director of Art Dubai Group, emphasized that Art Dubai has evolved beyond a conventional art fair into an international platform for the region’s cultural scene. She noted that this special edition will showcase the resilience of the UAE’s cultural landscape and the importance of collaboration among galleries, artists, and institutions.
Diverse Global Representation
Dunja Gottweis, Director of Art Dubai Fair, highlighted that this edition will bring together galleries from nearly 20 countries, with a strong focus on regional representation. The gallery program will encompass contemporary, modern, and digital practices, showcasing a range of perspectives from emerging artists to established names. Gottweis pointed out that the ambitious presentations reflect both the depth of the region and its connections to broader cultural contexts.
Alexie Glass-Kantor, Executive Director of Curatorial at Art Dubai Group, mentioned that the theme “Things we do together” has guided the program’s development. The fair will feature large-scale installations, talks, performances, and informal gatherings, creating an open and connected experience for attendees.
Gallery Presentations and Cultural Impact
This special edition of Art Dubai continues to affirm Dubai’s role as the region’s commercial art hub. It will feature over 45 gallery presentations, with approximately 60% of participants drawn from the region. The fair aims to bridge regional practices with global contexts, reinforcing its importance in the cultural ecosystem.
Participants will include both long-established international galleries and newcomers who have played a pivotal role in shaping the cultural landscape. The fair will also introduce an innovative risk-sharing model, allowing galleries to pay booth costs based on success, addressing the challenges many are currently facing.
Comprehensive Program of Events
Art Dubai is committed to fostering long-term initiatives that align with Dubai’s cultural ambitions and diverse communities. The special edition will include a comprehensive program of exhibitions, large-scale installations, performances, and screenings, complemented by a daily schedule of talks and conversations.
