UAE Police Strengthen Community Bonds Through Acts of Kindness During Heavy Rain Crisis

Dubai: The police force in the UAE has demonstrated its commitment to community welfare during a recent heavy rain crisis, showcasing acts of compassion that extend beyond law enforcement. These incidents have emerged on social media, highlighting the human side of policing, where officers have stepped in to provide assistance in critical situations.

A Race Against Time

On March 23, as heavy rains caused significant traffic delays between Dubai and Sharjah, Lamiaa Abdelaal found herself in a dire situation. Her 21-year-old son, Yassin Sedhom, was en route to a chemotherapy appointment, but the traffic congestion turned a routine journey into a three-hour ordeal. Yassin, who has Type 1 diabetes, began to experience dangerously low blood sugar levels during the wait.

Yassin had previously battled Ewing sarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer, which he was declared free of in 2025 after undergoing surgery and chemotherapy. However, the cancer returned in January 2026, necessitating urgent medical attention.

In a moment of desperation, Yassin’s father approached a nearby patrol from Sharjah Police, seeking guidance on how to navigate the traffic. The officer responded promptly, instructing the family to follow him. Recognizing that traffic management alone would not suffice, the officer called for an ambulance and additional police support.

“The officer immediately told my husband to follow him. He tried to help us drive faster, but soon, an ambulance and another police car joined us,” Lamiaa recalled. The ambulance led the way, flanked by police vehicles that cleared the route. Within 20 minutes, the family arrived at the hospital, traveling at speeds of 100-120 km/h.

Upon reaching the hospital, the police officers departed without seeking recognition. “They all disappeared before we could even thank them. I don’t even know their names,” Lamiaa stated.

A Commitment to Care

At the hospital, Yassin received immediate care, stabilizing his condition before beginning chemotherapy. Professor Dr. Humaid Al Shamsi, CEO of Burjeel Cancer Institute and President of the Emirates Oncology Society, acknowledged the police’s swift response as a reflection of a national ethos of compassion.

“We thank the ambulance teams and Sharjah Police, who were, as always, a shining example in their swift response and humanity toward all citizens and residents,” he remarked. Yassin’s condition is now stable, and his chemotherapy sessions will continue as scheduled.

Lamiaa expressed her gratitude for the authorities’ attentiveness. “In the middle of everything happening… the authorities are taking care of every person… every small problem. That is why Allah will always bless this country and its Rulers,” she said.

The following day, a senior officer from Sharjah Police reached out to check on Yassin’s condition, further exemplifying the police’s commitment to community welfare.

Moments of Humanity

In another instance, a Dubai Police officer provided comfort to a distressed parent at a hospital. As anxiety took over, the officer picked up the child, smiled, and calmed him down. A parent shared this experience on social media, emphasizing the humanity displayed by law enforcement. “This is the real Dubai… not fear, not panic—but humanity, care, and safety,” she wrote.

In Ajman, police officers delivered essential food supplies to residents affected by the heavy rains, showcasing their commitment to community support. A video of the delivery captured a woman’s heartfelt gratitude as she raised her hands in prayer for the officers.

Building Trust Through Kindness

These instances of police kindness have resonated with residents across the UAE, reinforcing a sense of security and community trust. Many have taken to social media to express their appreciation for the police’s efforts, whether in managing traffic or providing assistance during emergencies.

Such acts of kindness are not new to UAE residents. They reflect a broader narrative of support and care that is woven into the fabric of daily life in the country. The understanding that help is always available fosters a sense of safety and belonging among residents.
