Dubai Economic Zones Achieve 96% Occupancy and 13% Increase in Firms During Strong H1 Growth

Dubai’s Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ) reported significant growth in the first half of 2026, showcasing a robust demand for its infrastructure and services. The authority’s performance underscores its capacity to attract investment and foster business expansion, aligning with Dubai’s strategic vision as a global hub for commerce and innovation.

During this period, DIEZ’s three economic zones—Dubai Airport Freezone (DAFZ), Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), and Dubai CommerCity—achieved an impressive occupancy rate exceeding 96%. This high demand reflects the authority’s commitment to providing top-tier facilities and services tailored to the needs of businesses.

The number of companies operating within DIEZ’s zones surged by 13% compared to the same timeframe in 2025. Employment within these zones also saw a remarkable increase of 24%, indicating a thriving business environment conducive to growth and opportunity.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of DIEZ, noted that these results highlight the resilience of the authority’s economic model. He emphasized that the growth in both companies and employment demonstrates Dubai’s capability to create new opportunities and attract high-value investments, further enhancing its competitiveness on the global stage.

Sheikh Ahmed stated that guided by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, DIEZ is dedicated to developing an integrated economic ecosystem that bolsters Dubai’s global standing and supports the growth of strategic sectors.

Dynamic Business Environment

His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Executive Chairman of DIEZ, remarked that the results reflect the success of the authority’s strategy to cultivate an integrated economic ecosystem responsive to the evolving needs of businesses. He pointed out that the 96% occupancy rate, coupled with the growth in the number of companies and employees, signifies strong demand for the economic zones and confidence in the business environment they offer.

Dr. Al Zarooni further indicated that DIEZ plans to enhance its competitiveness by expanding services, accelerating digital transformation, and implementing artificial intelligence technologies to improve operational efficiency and customer experience.

Investing in the Future Economy

In the first half of 2026, DIEZ continued to bolster its investment and innovation ecosystem through projects aimed at supporting startups and future-focused sectors. Key expansion initiatives were launched within Dubai Silicon Oasis, including District IO and Block 14.

District IO, backed by an AED 11 billion investment, aims to provide advanced infrastructure for emerging technologies, reinforcing Dubai’s ambition to become a global hub for research, development, and innovation. Meanwhile, the first phase of Block 14, with an investment of AED 1.8 billion, will introduce a mixed-use business and residential community aligned with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.

Located near the future Dubai Metro Blue Line station, Block 14 will feature a commercial building, two residential towers, a retail district, and improved metro connectivity, with completion expected by 2029.

Oraseya Capital Strengthens Startup Ecosystem

Oraseya Capital, the venture capital arm of DIEZ, has played a pivotal role in supporting startups and fostering innovation. According to MAGNiTT’s H1 2026 rankings, Oraseya Capital emerged as the UAE’s most active investor by the number of deals for the third consecutive year. It also ranked as the leading early-stage investor in the country and secured the second position across the MENA region in both categories.

In the first half of 2026, Oraseya Capital invested in 15 startups, marking a 25% increase in new investments compared to the same period in 2025. Notable investments included Takeem, a proptech platform specializing in rent-guarantee solutions, and Revora, an AI-powered e-commerce platform catering to GCC markets.

Additionally, Oraseya Capital’s Sandbox program continued to support entrepreneurs and startups, with its eighth cohort attracting 771 applications. After 28 selection committee sessions, 16 companies were chosen to participate in the program.

Technology and Innovation Growth

The Dubai Technology Entrepreneur Campus (Dtec) further solidified its role as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship in the first half of the year. New company registrations surged by 57% compared to H1 2025, while the number of companies specializing in artificial intelligence increased by 95%. This growth highlights the rising demand for Dtec’s specialized environment and the expanding presence of technology-driven businesses within the ecosystem.

These developments reinforce DIEZ’s commitment to advancing Dubai’s knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy, supporting the emirate’s ambition to rank among the world’s top three urban economies.
